Does make me laugh how the left is pro-immigration and yet pro affordable housing. The two are contradictory. As long as supply is tough to find in a tight city like London, increased demand will lead to crazy prices and "gentrification".

The left also say that they stand for workers receiving a reasonable living wage however this too is unsustainable due to an endless supply of cheap foreign labour pushing down wages.

Migrants claiming benefits are those who have legally earned them. You have to work in the UK for 5 years before you become fully entitled to benefits (which is essentially the point at which you would be considered automatic eligible for UK citizenship). People like to blame migrants, because what they can't do is blame the political parties they vote for, who represent corporate interests above their own (or in many cases would be partially responsible for the promotion of, or implementation of those interests). Its a faux 'racism' argument, popularised by certain right wing political agendas*, because it absolves them of the responsibility for dealing with a major issue. Either in terms of controlling the flow of migration, or raising taxation on the increased corporate profits to compensate society. Basically, if you voted Labour or Conservative from the 80s onwards, this is what you actually voted for (in fact its kind of been going on, albeit on a lesser more controlled manner, since the post war boom). * I use right wing political agendas, because we haven't had a left wing government since 1979.

Here Well, no, that wouldn't work either, we need a degree of migration, simply to facilitate the function of state and existing UK economic needs (given the UK economy is entirely dependent on the Financial Market and we have a massive level of foreign companies). Not to mention, the number of people who leave the UK permanently each year (230,000 or so, of which 125,000 are British Citizens). There are no simply put arguments. Completely halting migration could quite quickly cripple the UK economy, especially if it resulted in 'sending many migrants home' Any change would need to be graduated and controlled, otherwise you simply replace problems with new problems. People always seem to think there is a simple solution, its never true. Simply privatising the utility companies, created new problems, simply selling off housing stock created new problems, simply allowing 'freedom of movement' created new problems.
