There simply must be more to this than the amount they want for him- in the grand scheme of things (and at the risk of sounded glib) paying what they're asking for could be the difference between safety and relegation- and we're taking about £5m more. I'm no expert but as others have pointed out, we've probably got Townsend at least £5m cheaper than his value in this market, same with Tomkins. We got Mandanda for free so the thinking from SP must be looking at the add-ons/goal and assist bonuses and doesn't want to be taken for a mug.
Let's give SP a bit of credit shall we? He's always done what's best for the club and I really hope, no matter whether CB ends up with us or not, that Parish explains why it's been such an epic ball ache

I think it's not just the money because Parish wants to see us seal the deal by winning in the negotiation so it sends out the message of how we always trade well.

We've traded well with players leaving, haven't really replaced them but we have traded well selling them. We've also bought 3 players in well.

You cannot win every time, especially when it's strikers and when we really need one because we only have ONE, and LFC know it. This is the difficulty in always selling before buying, which we're going to get hurt by a bit more in the next 2 weeks.

We have also just bid £30mil and they want £32.5mil so we're £2.5mil short and not £5mil.

Our bid, without the add-ons is well short of what Liverpool are asking.
And Liverpool know we are desperate for a striker.

Hilarious that one of the add-ons was whether or not palace win a spot in the champions league.

How about we pay £100 upfront for a season tickets with £350 in add-ons dependent on how the team plays?

Well, hadn't actually realised that we've put a bid in for him today when I wrote that so my point is now redundant.

However, what I meant was that seeing as there has actually been very little in the papers about it recently and nothing said by either club, it previously appeared to me that we probably had already moved on.

So even if you add together goals scored by our strikers last season, it would appear that the flop Benteke is more productive. Our need is desperate and this was so badly highlighted in the WBA match. Just pay the bloody asking price and be thankful of the money made on Bolasie.

It's not saving a couple of million quid at this point, it's all down to ego. Getting in the way of progress on the pitch too. All a bit shabby frankly.

If that is true somebody really is taking the mickey...if I was Liverpool I would tell them to go swivel as discussions are over. That's a real piss take that is.

Fair enough; I thought you were commenting on the (reportedly) most recent bid. Actually, who knows what's going on?
