I think it's ridiculous to exclude players just because they might be picked for the African Cup of Nations. If you want the best players you must expect (some of) them to be playing for their nations and you must cast the net as widely as possible. Players who play for their nations gain experience they can't get in their clubs, increase their value through visibility and prestige, and get their clubs known abroad, for a start. And it's what, three weeks? Oh, and they might get injured. Well, you can get injured in the Premiership, as we well know.

Hands up everyone who would exclude Jedinak because he happens to be Australian.

Seems to me (total guess) that Palace are targeting 2 new strikers at each around the £10m level: Babakar, Bakambu, Arnautovic or Berahino

Please no.

His goal record is terrible, should we really be targeting someone who can only score in Serie B?

I dunno, I reckon it'd still be better than signing Benteke (for £30m) honestly, seems we'd be getting another Gayle judging from what I've read, broadly speaking. PL doesn't require as much tactical intelligence as Serie A, and more physicality, so he may do better here.

hes a player many deem more made for the English game, strong quick direct, hardly Italian backs to the goal kind of strikers/ball to feet.

He could be great. Stats don't always tell a story.

I remember a certain Chris Armstrong in Millwalls reserves.

Many other better comparisons but im at work and feel ill.

Biggest problem is that we haven't had a genuine goal scorer since Murray in the Championship. I'd rather spend the 30mil on Benteke and get someone who can get us those goals. Babacar is a massive risk on that.

Agree with wanting Benteke over Babacar. As I said earlier on this rumor I have a feeling this one will happen. However, what if this is being used to put pressure on Liverpool/Benteke to move a bit quicker on our offer.

Also can't see Babacar being signed instead of a more established striker. Could it be possible that this deal is as well as another more established striker, gives us 3 strikers, Wickham, Babacar and Benteke.

If we end up with Benteke and Babacar I'd be pleasantly surprised.

Just seems a little too unlike us. Having said that, so do the three summer signings thus far.

The acquisition of a quality striker though, really is our kryptonite.

Is like this guy in our ranks, just not as our first choice striker. We need to get at least 2 strikers in this window. Benteke and him would be class. But, the typical palace thing to do, would be to hang hopes on wickham and just get this bloke in. Asking for trouble. Benteke I would love but I really hope wet spam don't shove there noses in on the deal, waving their fancy new stadium which was gifted to them.

Good shout mate. How good did Chrissy Armstrong turn out to be for us? Forgotten man in many ways.

More recently, a certain Yannick Bolasie who couldn't get a game for Bristol City......

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I assume that if Babacar is on the agenda again that he is plan B or C, meaning maybe that West Ham have stolen a march on us with Benteke...
