Surely it is down to the proposers to outline what it would mean rather than something vague.

Admittedly it is harder for the leave camp to push forward a case where there are so many unknowns.

Back to topic, will the government's plan affect your Ghanaian fiance's right to stay here?

I love your infatuation with me. Some might call it stalking.

That's big of you. Inviting a nice, white immigrant round. You are not really mixing it up with different cultures, are you? But continue to tell the rest of us to do so.

Am I bothered about my fiances right to stay? No. As a carer and the fact that she holds an EU passport, that would render her safe. When we get married she will apply for a British passport.

May I suggest that if you don't want people responding to your paranoid ramblings, then don't post on a public message board. It's not stalking and you are quite adept at questioning me and others when it suits your studenty political aims, even though you are probably close to being 50.

Hmm. You do seem to single me out though. I haven't a problem with this.

I'm not telling anyone else what to do, just voicing an opinion.
My politics have drifted leftwards as I've got older because I've seen first hand what right wing ideologies have done to individuals and communities.
I'm glad for you and your fiancee, that's good news. I'm sure that there are many couples that this will affect. Do you know of anyone who will be affected? If so what is their take on the matter.
I forgot to mention that I went down the pub with the parents of the boys in my sons football team, which included a russian, a serbian, a nigerian, a sierra leonian as well as english and a scot. We'll all be meeting up at the end of season awards next week too.

BTW, your last paragraph is on the second tier of Graham's hierarchy - ad hominem.

It says in the article that some jobs, like nursing, are exempt. I'd imagine teachers are too.

From 2011:

Rules forcing teachers to retrain before being able to take-up jobs in state primaries and secondaries will be axed next year, it was disclosed.
Michael Gove, the Education Secretary, said the move would initially apply to teachers from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.
Research shows teaching qualifications offered in these countries are already equivalent to those in England, he said.
The reforms will then be extended to staff from other countries such as South Africa, Jamaica and Singapore.
It will give these teachers the same working rights that currently apply to those from the European Union, who can permanently work in England despite not being trained in this country.
Speaking in the Commons on Monday, Mr Gove said: "One of the aims of my department is to make sure that the most talented people possible are teaching our children and it is already the case that teachers from the European Economic Area can teach in our schools.
"I want to extend that freedom to teachers from the Commonwealth countries such as Canada and New Zealand and Australia and I hope that other Commonwealth countries like South Africa, Jamaica and Singapore can join in due course."

You really need to drop this victim mentality.

If you don't want to be questioned (which I believe is the teacher in you), then don't post.

You are adept at questioning others when you want to.

Here's the detail. Teachers are not mentioned, although lecturers with a PhD have some leeway, as do sportsmen.

Interesting that there is a points based system mentioned - I thought (according to N F) we didn't have one and he'd want to introduce it.

Now I concede, I've only had a quick scan of the document so am happy for someone to correct me.

Question me if it is valid to the thread. This thread is about a £35k minimum wage for non eu immigrants if they wish to stay, not who I socialise with!

Now please respond to the question (which is related to the thread) about couples affected by the legislation.

I've not read it but an Academy chain has recently recruited 66 teachers from Jamaica, who I doubt would have come if there was still a need to qualify and be subject to a threshold and time limit.

Is that because teachers in the uk won't touch them with a bargepole?

As for doubting whether they would bring them in, the cynic in me (and experience in TUPE negotiations with )suggests that academy leaders probably haven't considered / are aware the legislation.

No, as I've been to plenty of them with UK staff.

The threshold for teachers is £20,500 and all starting salaries are above that.

Interesting, and good news. Where did you find that info?

Yep there are many academies with U.K staff, however my experience is that there is a very high staff turnover in a lot of academies.
