I really don't understand the pessimism on here. Every time we are linked with a player that people rate they all poo poo it 'good player means he wont sign for us' or 'far too good for us, will go to someone else' etc. F**k me, maybe just maybe, they will see a club that has exciting players, a great fan base and plans to really move forward and push onto the next level. He hasn't played much football in the last couple of seasons, I haven't seen other prem clubs falling over themselves to sign him and with the Euro's going on I am sure most will be looking in that direction. Also we are based in London so he won't have to move. I don't see Spurs/Chelsea going for him and I think that West Ham will want a bigger name, that leaves us as the other premier league option in London. Also I bet all the people that state that players of this ilk will never sign for us are the first to complain when we are linked with a league 2 striker!

Alternatively, you could say we are the kind of club that a player can come to in order to relaunch their career. Getting some game time & showing the world how good you can be used to count for something. Even a loan deal would do - it can benefit the player and both clubs involved & someone like Arse loaning us a player is probably much the same as us loaning one of ours to a championship team. I think a problem for long term supporters is that we are still reacting as if the club had just hauled itself out of administration, rather than working towards being an established PL club, capable of beating any team (on a good day) and a team capable of getting to the cup final. I think a problem for long term supporters is that we are still reacting as if the club had just hauled itself out of administration, rather than working towards being an established PL club, capable of beating any team (on a good day) and a team capable of getting to the cup final. We all know things can go pearshaped very quickly (Newcastle, Charlton) but the people in charge at Palace are now very experienced and committed to moving the club on to the next level. Grounds for coniderable optimism, I think!

Perhaps but you can't deny that what BD posted isn't the truth.

That downward slide in the second half of the season has possibly done quite a bit more damage than we might think in terms of attracting the class of players that we need.

Or alternatively you can look at it from a longer term view. If you take a 5 to 10 year view we are probably at least where we would have hoped to be, despite setbacks. We have to trust that, even if we don't make a meteoric change, we continue to improve along our intended path. My only concern is that others' development will be sufficiently faster than ours that we get left behind by the competition. Especially a certain South Cost bunch.

It wasn't our view of where we are that was being discussed but the possible view of us by players that we might like to join us.

However We are looking at players who are bench players or reserves for the top 4 club. These players want the chance to prove they are good enough so a side with a paper thin squad gives that opportunity. In my view our second half of season slump may be less of a problem than people are saying. If we were looking to buy a first team regular from a top 4 side then Ye, They may say I am above this.
