Who's going to run for the Tory leadership?

As I said the other day I think Boris thought remain would win by 2-3% and he'd then be well positioned to play man of the people in a stable economy and ready to be the next prime minister. When the result came in let's face it the man as good as went awol. When he did appear the enthusiasm was gone, he looked like he was out of his depth. Suddenly it was all backtracking over freedom of movement and 'i didnt mean this i meant that, i was tired'. He realised what's at stake here, his proimity to it and how absurd it would look if he can't get a good Brexit deal. Gove stepping up proved to be an ideal way to get out. It's pitiful that he didn't stick with his convictions since he basically headed the leave campaign. Unfortunately for him, if it all goes to pot people will remember the role he played.

Thus, who do you think will be the best candidate? That is, address the title to this thread rather than dribble something banal about your dreary suburban existence. I'll start it off. I think gove is one of those somewhere along the autism spectrum geniuses who are brilliant but not likeable or electable. I suspect he is putting his name down with no real belief he has a chance; but knowing that he will fight hard, bow out at the right time, and hitch his wagon to the brightest rising star knowing his skill is one of behind the throne control. His attack on BJ seems contrived to underline the potential support he is going to throw behind the eventual front runner. What do you think?

Given what you have written there, I`d say that makes you more informed than most on here re. the true mechanics of the Conservative Party. Willo has helped take down Cameron and now also Boris by voting 'out' and he has now enabled the next PM - a remainer in May - to take the reins. I like him. A great Tory. Ruthless.

Whilst Gove may have been responsible for Boris not standing in the forthcoming leadership campaign the most powerful anti Boris speech came from Michael Heseltine last night who accused him of giving credibility to Nigel Farage but was too cowardly to see it through and having lead his troops into battle he abandoned them at the first sound of gunfire.
