Never heard of Leadsom until 10 days ago.

Should have put my hat into the ring. Would make a fantastic leader of The Conservative Party me.

Me neither.

What is happening in politics when a unknown can be in danger of being PM?

The sad part is that Labour are so f***ed that the Tories could have a pantomime horse as leader and Labour would still lose.
Their predicament is best summed up by David Lammy,a man who is still arguing the case for crying foul on the referendum result. What a total plank he is.

Labour will be erased in some parts of the country by UKIP and it's exactly what they deserve.

Neither Blair nor Thatcher held major posts in the government before becoming PM, and they were pretty successful (electorally).

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

But they were known to the public, especially Thatcher.

I thought Maggie was Education Secretary? Hence the Maggie Thatcher Milk Snatcher moniker?

Labour are in a state thanks to the PLP. If Leadsom gets in the Tories would be the same- voted for by the whole party, not exactly well regarded by the parliamentary party!

Best thing now (for both Tories and Labour) would be splits- New Labour and Old Labour go their separate ways, Brexit Eurosceptic Tories go one way and more moderate pro EU Tories the other.

Politics has never been so exciting, fast moving and downright depressing at the same time.

I'd like to see a party that actually represents the consensus. It could be made up of UKIP and Tory Brexiters with a new centre left party in opposition. Corbyn's Labour will be virtually erased in the north of England and not before time. They have relied on blind loyalty in some areas for too long.

Interesting comment about a National Government which was so successful in WW2 and Churchill wanted again.

Actually Ted Heath offered us the same after his very narrow defeat and the country was split 50/50 but it was too novel for the voters.

I often wonder how it would have worked out for us he did think of the country not just his party whatever happened to statesmen?

Thatcher was Education secretary. And before that she was a junior minister in the treasury IIRC. She had experienced.

Blair had none.

The 2nd coming doesn't need experience.

TB became Home Sec after the 92 election and leader in 94 after John Smith's death.

Don't be fooled. She's as Blairite as they come.

She does a good line in saying things like leaving the ECHR or sentencing immigrants to death by firing squad are 'on the table' when in reality that means she has no intention of touching the policy with a ten-foot bargepole.

Cameron and Blair used to pick fights with their own party to prove how 'modern' and 'centrist' they were.

May wears sheep's clothing to get their support.

Maybe she's more sheep in wolf's clothing.

I agree there's no way immigrants will be made to leave the UK. I don't want them to but I can see there's few things she has to bargain with so she has to keep hold of them.
