Kings don't wear clothes that have been worn by 40 other people.

That's fine but he said he has a limited budget, if it's that limited there's other things you can spend the money on.

Off the peg suits are made to be altered, you can pick up a decent wool suit for as little as £250 these days, take it to a tailor with a decent rep & get them to make the alterations.
You will get that bespoke suit for considerably less.

Having the bespoke tailor treatment is fun though

Depends, I went for white suits, with a cream shirt, red cravats etc, and rented, on the basis none of us would ever wear those suits again, and it let us go very bad ass in terms of what we wore, as it freed up a lot of money from buying three suits.

We looked f**king gangster pimp king on the day. But it'd have cost us several hundred pounds each to buy, but thanks to shopping around a few rental outlets, we ended up paying about 50 each, plus the deposit.

I got an off the peg suit in Debenhams for my wedding, including a waistcoat for about £140. I looked well fit in it even if I do say so myself.

Oh and within a month of my wedding I have worn it for a funeral so that's double bubble. Got two other weddings coming up as well.

Part Time James has given the answer. What have you already own to wear - how much use will you get from wedding suit.

As said it is the other bits that give variety (and fun - a gentle Christmas tie in September is a talking point and can be given to a grateful friend).

My wife will not let me forget being abused by a young lady in Moss Bros who answered the question "What is the (money) difference between buying and hiring?" with a straight-faced "If you buy it you keep it, if you hire it you have to give it back." The price difference is usually around 3.5 times.

Good luck.

There are still actually a couple of stores on 125th St in Harlem, where you can buy those 'Baad Ass' Pimp suits along with cravat & fedora. So if you want to look like an extra from Shaft or Huggy Bear that is the place to go.
