With regards to Maidstone when Peter Taylor was mismanaging our team with limited players and prehistoric tactics and you could feel the club shrinking, the atmosphere dying and hope disappearing under his utterly clueless leadership I remember thinking over and over again that we were turning into Maidstone United - the atmosphere at Selhurst during that time was very Maidstonian, to me. Perhaps under Trevor Francis we were some stodgy midlands outfit, can't think who, Mick McCarthy is doing his best to turn Ipswich into Barnsley, I think Malcolm Allison saw us as a bigger version of Brentford so he changed our image, sort of two threads in one, do you associate any wretched uninteresting periods in our history with soulless towns or clubs, for me the Peter Taylor era had something uniquely Maidstone about it.

steve bruce - the velvet underground ,brilliant and slipped under the radar then got noticed and it all went wrong
trevor francis - coldplay , like their songs all games seemed to melt into one
iain dowie - stone roses , great first album but couldn't quite manage making a good second album
peter taylor - the bluetones , great first single then it all sounded the same
neil Warnock - the bonzo dog doodah band , who the fcuk knew what was going on

paul hart - pulp , filled in when the stone roses blew out Glastonbury and did a great job
George burley - the yardbirds , debutted wilf as the yardbirds did jimmy page
dougie freedman - the beatles , the beatles found drugs and got brilliant , dougie got told to play good football by the owners in a car park and got brilliant and then it all ended in acrimony
ian Holloway - the wurzels , just because of his accent
tony pulis - oasis , very lumpen and predictable but popular and got results but fell apart with recriminations
alan Pardew - the clash , a three pronged attack ,for strummer,jones,simenon , read wilf , benteke, townsend
