I have never seen a Palace player so out of this depth as Fryers was last night against an also weakened southampton side. I fear we are on a kick into nothing with him. Give him away in January or just release him.

Whilst i'd like to see youth given a chance, it's much more beneficial for them at this stage of their career to be playing week in, week out. If they stayed, and we just gave them a run out in Capital One cup, they'd play around 2/3 games a season. I much prefer this approach of letting them go out on loan and gradually loan them up the leagues.

If they can do the business in the Championship, then they may have a good chance of doing it in the premiership. At the moement, the only one that seems likely to be able to make the leap, is Kaikai.

The biggest bugbear I got is not giving our youth a chance. Pardew is too arrogant to play them but with pressure he will, being the arrogant sh he is, he'll take full credit when they come on and have a stormer.

What a daft comment. There could be a variety of reasons why Pardew doesn't play the youngsters very often but I very much doubt that arrogance is one of them.

Surely arrogance is believing that you know better than the club's manager

I totally get what people are saying and I understand that the club are trying to improve the squad etc.

But lets be fair all we have done is the following:

Mccarthy - Relaced with Mandanda

Mariappa, Hangeland - Replaced with Tomkins so one down already in defence

Jedinak, Bolasie - Replaced with Flamini & Townsend

Gayle, Adebyor, Chamakh - Replaced with Benteke & Remy so 1 down here

So basically yes we have improved in terms of quality but in regards to the depth we have actually decreased this by 2 players.

AP himself said that this season we need to improve the depth so that when we get injuries it does not effect us like last season well this clearly has not been done just look at the defence currently.

I understand about loaning young players out but come on seriously am I the only one who thinks integrating Kalikai & Boetang into the senior squad would be worse than persavering with the likes of Sako, Chungy or Mutch.

I am not moaning about the club just making some suggestions and trying to undersatnd why certain players continue to stay around the first team squad when they have shown they are not good enough and instead we could be bedding in a couple of younger players.

dazza, edit that 2nd to last paragraph. I know what you mean but it doesn't read correctly.

On the subject of youngsters I don't fully agree but I do on being 2 men down.

Palace’s fringe players not being as good as Southampton’s fringe players is ‘a disgrace’

In response to the OPs message I think the board do realise that some of these players aren't good enough but they possibly can't find clubs who are willing to buy these players, which stops us from buying better players because of our wage bill.

Once Fryers and Campbell run their contracts down at the end of this season well have a extra £2.3m to spend (I believe they're on £10k and £35k respectively a week). Sako, at the time, was a very good free transfer but he has been shocking since returning from his injury last season but who is going to buy an out of form 55k a week player? That's nearly £6m in wages over two season, imagine the financial benefits if we could get him off the books. Maybe Sako will come good? I doubt it but it's a possibility if he keeps fit.

As for the players out on loan, Boateng, Anderson, Croll and Ladapo all need regular 1st team matches. Kaikai, who IMO is our only youth player that might break into the first team, is back in January so a loan to the Championship will do him a world of good and may even force himself into our plans this season (injuries usually are terrible for us around that time).

When Pardew said this would be a transitional year I thought he was talking s*** and making early excuses if we had a poor season. Maybe that was his way of saying the squad isn't good enough but it's going to take at least another season to improve it.

Similar views to mine dazza.

Surely it's better to try and develop KaiKai and Boateng and give us fans something to look forward rather than subjecting us to watching players struggle to make the grade?

Money is not an issue surely?

Pardew clearly feels that these players 'Development' is better served by them getting regular first team football elsewhere.

But I agree that some of our 'Fringe' players are not of the required standard and as such our strength in depth is alarming. I think there is a consensus on here about the players in question !

I agree with you on the deadweight players which is why I don't include them in posts. We need some mugs to come in for them but fryers? Could we not have loaned him out for part of his wages and got a decent defender in?

The mistake we've made is releasing 2 CBs and bringing in 1 whilst relying on midfielders to cover full back when that was a thin area before. So we have 6 defenders for 4 positions and 5 midfielders for 3 positions. Of course there could come a time when were stretched.

Let's hope the weakest it'll be is punch and another in midfield with Chungy at 10 and covers at full back.

We all know that Willo.

We're just suggesting he (and Parrish) reconsiders that strategy as we would rather be watching developing talent than struggling journeymen.

Clearly Pardew belives that these so called "Struggling journeymen" have more to offer than our so called "Developing talent" at this present time and as such would rather the young talent get regular football than be called upon for cameo appearances. All down to matter of opinion about the strength and weaknesses of players and perhaps looking at the "Bigger picture".
