Clearly Pardew belives that these so called "Struggling journeymen" have more to offer than our so called "Developing talent" at this present time and as such would rather the young talent get regular football than be called upon for cameo appearances. All down to matter of opinion about the strength and weaknesses of players and perhaps looking at the "Bigger picture".

Thank you Captain Obvious... LOL

There have been calls on here for the "Developing talent" to be given a run in the side. All I have been trying to do is to see it from Pardew's standpoint.

So do you want the likes of Anderson and Ladapo to NOT go out on 'Loan' for regular first team football and instead get limited playing time for us when there are the likes of Benteke,Wickham and Remy in their way ?

We now have 7 senior/established midfielders - How many games would Boateng and Kaikai get ?

In defence would Luke Croll get many minutes with the likes of Dann,Tomkins,Delaney etc etc in his way ?

We have some young 'Developing talent' who perhaps will only develop into what we require if they face the rigours of first team football elsewhere.Yes I understand those suggesting that they would like to see them given a chance but there is always a "Bigger picture".

I agree with you on the deadweight players which is why I don't include them in posts. We need some mugs to come in for them but fryers? Could we not have loaned him out for part of his wages and got a decent defender in?

The mistake we've made is releasing 2 CBs and bringing in 1 whilst relying on midfielders to cover full back when that was a thin area before. So we have 6 defenders for 4 positions and 5 midfielders for 3 positions. Of course there could come a time when were stretched.

Let's hope the weakest it'll be is punch and another in midfield with Chungy at 10 and covers at full back.

I agree, we were definitely one defender short in our squad going into the season but we have certainly been unlucky with injuries at this early stage of the season. Fryers looked good in pre season so the management have decided he deserves a chance to be a squad player, but with Souare out we will certainly make left back a priority in January.

I think with Mcarthur, Cabaye, Ledley, Flamini and then Mutch as last resort back up we will be fine for CM this season and that is one of our strongest positions. It's out wingers that worry me slightly if Sako really was that poor last night (I didn't get to see the game), if Wilf and AT get injured then were f***ed! We have Lee but he is far more effective playing through the middle, as is Puncheon. I really hope Kaikai proves himself at Brentford so he can slot into our squad come January.

I think Kaikai is the only player who would realistically get any game time, but that would only be as a late sub for Wilf or AT or if one of those got injured. He'll be back in January so let's hope he proves himself at Brentford. I can certainly see the logic in the decision to send all of these players on loan.

Southampton have a historg of bringing youth players through, they played the youngster who scored against us last night and he looks a good prospect. There would of been a real benefit of playing some one like luke dreher or maybe some of the young attacking talent we have like randell williams, aaron bisakka, jacob
Berkeley or corie andrews. These players are raw and would cause more of a problem for the opposition they say sako. They should be given a go in the cup to see how they performed.

I remember reading a few years back clyne said he didnt think he would make it, and if it wasnt due to an injury crisis he may not off. If they are not going to get a chance to perform what is the point of an academy.

Also kaikai should of been on the fringes and starting the odd game for us, if he performed decently would have been a viable option to become a regular this season.

Our first team are mid table premiership quality. Our squad players / backups range from mid-lower championship (Mutch & Sako) to L2 (Fryers!).

Saying that however, Rome wasn't built in a day? It will take time to remove the dead wood and replace with players of sufficient quality happy to play on a roation / cover / backup basis.

Really?

Everyone knows the benefits of sending players out on loan, but at what stage do you take a leap of faith?

Spurs could still have Harry Kane out on loan or Manure with Rashford.

If my memory serves me well (It often doesn't !) Tottenham gave Kane his debut in a 'Europa League' game and then he went out on 'Loan' to a few clubs before he finally established himself back at his parent club.

I am a little surprised there has been no announcement from the club concerning refunds for those fans who went to Southampton.

There is a precedent for such action when loyal supporters have spent a great deal of money watching an abject performance.

Surely Pardew and Parish can't believe that was a satisfactory display?

Anyway, even if the refund does not come from the club how about the players having a whip round to take care of the loyal fans.

Pardew had already said he would make a lot of changes.knowing our squad, did you really expect anything different. ..
