She was Christine Keller's mother in, one of my favorite films, 'Scandal'.

Oddly a great film and a destroyer of socks...

I just feel sorry for people who seem to define their lives through a f*cking soap opera.

Ok, RIP and all that but she wasn't exactly plucked from this life in the flower of her youth.

Quite. Never saw the appeal. Its crap drama, that's about as far from 'real life' as you can get (a point in question is that Neighbours is the most realistic soap opera).

Its like a car crash of pseudo-moral issues force fed to a semi-comatose toddler with brain damage.

Haven't watched it since Hilda left but its golden era mid 70's to mid eighties was as good a tragi-comedy-drama as you could get with so many fine actors and the scripts were just superb. A lot of the writers went on to bigger things. Jack Rosenthal, Jimmy McGovern, Kay Mellor and more.

Would.

Worrying how dying has suddenly made a 90 year old shagable. Still each to their own.

Issues of consent - Interfering with a corpse is a very minor offence, where as rape carries up to a life sentence.

Colloquially known as 'garamoosh' to Sir James Wilson Savile.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I think there is a period of time of 'The Soap' when TV was largely 'quite s**t' and we, as a nation, were all a bit less exposed to 'better things' (and social realism was still 'a thing').

They're a thing, I think of an era, without anything new popping up - with dramatic tv series moving much more into the story driven character arc business. But maybe, also, back then, soaps filled that role as most TV series were collections of single one off stories.

I was quite fascinated with Neighbours, as a soap, for its ability to actually mimic the mundane triviality of everday life in which nothing much happens, and when it does, most people get on with life.

I've said it before. I'd love them to cancel all of the soaps overnight, just to see those people lose their frigging minds.

Optimistic as ever
