Yea fine mate when I put the post up it was very raw as literally had only happened about 20 mins before thought I would put it here for a bit of support lol looking back I was just as much to blame because I was giving it large aswell. I found someone who saw it happen and thy said it was a very surprise to attack for everyone because the geezer was pretending to be palace and the next thing you know he had smashed me in the back of the head but apparently I stood my ground and did give him one back although very dazed and unsteady on my feet apparently thanks for asking though mate. I will be here in the lower holmesdale block b on Saturday giving t large once more lol

It was much better than anywhere in Australia, and, if it had a voice, it would have laughed at West Ham fans. Mind you, it lived in south Croydon so I imagine it would have been going the other way from Norwood Junction, on the 68 bus heading south. Which used to stop outside Dr Jims

I first lived in Broad Green in the late 1990s as a kid, but still remember the place pretty well... lived in a small three bed terrace with six others. Remember the place being a s***hole, but a s***hole with a community. Dunno what happened, but Croydon is synonymous with poverty, crime and best football team in the world; this all thanks to the exploits of Kate Moss, London rioters and my tram experience. I found this out when meeting people who lived outside of the Sutton/Croydon area - even people from Hackney used to mock the fact that I grew up in Croydon. I went to university and the same thing... funny looks from even the gangster drug dealers in the city... "you're from Croydon? You must be crazy," I remember one geezer called CVS said to me. I'm also very well traveled in the UK. Family never had much money when I was younger, so instead of Spain, we'd go on holiday to Skeggy, Plymouth, B'ham etc. I still maintain that Broad Green/West Croydon is the worst place in the UK for crime and general amounts of nutters. That said, even though it's a s***hole, it was my s***hole. Skip along all that now, though, Croydon's one of the most up-and-coming places in the UK - taking after other 'rejuvenated' areas such as Peckham and Brixton. We're getting a BoxPark very soon, and that'll be just the beginning. The future is bright. Edited by Dan1994 (27 Oct 2016 12.34am)

The odd thing about aging, is sometimes that the areas you liked as a youth, aren't as appealing as you get older. Its quite common that the more 'dubious' parts of town were where the best bars, clubs and fun were to be had / or most people hung out. As you settle in life, the appeal of some elements begins to fade, and the veneer of these areas tends to disappear, especially as your friends disperse. Was the past more of a community, or is it that because you grew up there, you knew everyone, and they've now been replaced by strangers. I virtually know no one in my home town. But when I was a young man and a kid, everyone seemed to know everyone. And I bet the people growing up there now, will feel the same. That said, Norwood Junction has certainly hit harder times since the 80s. The loss of a lot of the industry in the area has increasingly 'impoverished' the working classes who didn't get to 'move away' and work locally. Back when my Uncles and Grandad were young(ish) men, employment in the area and wages were pretty decent, especially with overtime. Which is certainly no longer the case.

Whenever I tell anyone I'from Bromley they tell me to "wear a fox hat".
