Some thoughts

1. We have lost a number of players who helped considerably with aerial defending of corners in earlier seasons - including e.g. Jedi, Chamakh, Murray.

2. The "no holding" rule enforcement has hit Scott Dann's effectiveness in particular.

3. Mandanda, frankly, is way off the mark in terms of dominating/collecting crosses.

4. Tomkins needs to improve/put his body on the line in the same way that Damo has always tried to.

Well said.

2.doesnt stop him jumping for the ball?
3.and hennessey and speroni were?
4. This one I do agree with.

I am amazed Mandanda hasn't come in for more criticism. His shot stopping has been poor (apart from 1 great save). The modern identikit of a premier league goalie is being 6ft 5 and coming out and dominating your area from set pieces, we are now conceding goals from corner etc. because he doesn't come off his line. Analysts from other clubs are looking at him and dropping corners, free kicks on our 6yd line and putting our centre half’s under huge pressure. I think we should put Hennessy in for the Burnley game, I think he was better than Palace fans gave him credit for and had a really good Euro's. While I am ranting he is another Pardew buy that isn't shaping up
Saoure - jury still out whether he is a good premiership full back
Kebaye - has not lived up to price tag/wages, not guaranteed starter
Tompkins - looks average
Townsend - been disappointing
Sakho - championship player
Chongy - too inconsistent
Wickham - injury prone, has looked uninterested this season
Benteke - no brainer

Don't think we will win another home match before Pardew's 2 year anniversary, that could be 2 home wins in a year, as much as I want Pardew to be a success too many cracks are appearing, you judge a manager on buys, tactics and improving players he is looking average on all counts

The point at which I stopped reading is in bold.

I just don't get the critism of him. He's pulled off some stunning saves for us, especially a number of one of ones and really can't see how he was to blame for any of the recejt goals we've let in. The fact is our captain and best defender, plus our regular left back have been out if the team and our squad hasn't been able to cope. We all knew in the summer if anything happened to soare wed be in trouble....

First off why you picking on me i only agreed. Next we are definitely missing jedi in the aerial dept but not much else imo. Dann has suffered this season from the clampdown, much as Leicesters pair of Morgan and Huth, whose shirt was ripped from his back at a corner at ours last season. Speroni i agree was poor at coming for crosses and vastly over rated purely by having been at the club a long time, cue the hysteria surrounding Hennessey replacing him , but was better than both at crosses imo.

What makes you think im picking on you, you agreed with him I disagreed ...can't agree dann suffering under the new rules, been ok apart from Saturday. If he can't beat a player to a header without fouling him we are in troube.

I will agree that saturday was probably more ring rust with SD.

I think so too, he definitely was off the pace most if the game. Probably the wrong game to bring him back. Personally I'd have kept him for burnley. Easy yo say in hindsight but not sure delaney would have given their player a free header for the first goal.

Damo, is a defender first and foremost, i just wish he was 5 years younger.

Mandanda is stronger, braver, more agile and has greater reflexes than Hennessey. I've noticed that in the handful of games I've seen him in this season so far. He hasn't had a settled first team defence in front of him yet and is getting used to the PL. Think a few who were saying to give WH a season last year, need to have the same ethos for Steeeeeve. Or s*** off.

We must be watching a different keeper, agile and greater reflexs isn't a description I would use for him. I don't particularly think WH is better or worse, but Mandanda hasn't impressed, just seemed to unsettle the defence.
I think we will be in trouble when it gets wet and cold, as he doesn't like diving and getting his kit dirty.

Really? The way he collects the ball by throwing his body out behind him and taking the ball into his chest into the ground is pretty impressive considering the speed the ball travels now days. This seems to be a trademark of his and takes great agility to pull off.
