Historic Royal Palaces (Tower of London, Hampton court Palace and some others) are self financed so it can be done.

I have no problem with a £400 million refurb of Buckingham Palace but maybe open it up for more than 7 weeks a year to help finance it.

Yep and I am sure they could monetise (shudder) visits to the Palace of Westminster beyond the parliament shop

the dignified don't even enter in the game

Getting rid of 50 MPs plus their lackeys and expenses should save quite a few quid.

Optimistic as ever

They are appointed by God to rule over us and I, for one, support this renovation.

Well worth the money for what it represents to the world.
Compare it to the money wasted on the Millennium Dome and Olympic Stadium, which they gave to West Ham, it appears quite good value.

about what we send to the EU in one week

what would you rather pay? Keeping our most iconic and spectacular British buildings looking splendid or giving to EU fatcats to get even fatter?

At least it's money that stays in our country and an investment that will be recouped

The average British family overall gets £6 back for every £1 they have to put toward the EU. Bet the Royal Family doesn't show such a fine return on taxpayers expenditure spent on them.
