Three at the back

Why not change it? We cannot do any worse. I would have Zaha and Fryers as our marauding wing backs. Wilf would have to work like a trojan at times to get back, but i firmly believe he could do what Victor Moses is doing at Chelsea. I think it would work with the three disciplined centre backs in the middle, Tomkins, Dann and Delaney, providing Wilf and Zeki do not neglect their defensive duties, Zeki shouldn't as he is a natural left back. That would mean we would be able to pack our midfield a bit more, we could have three midfielders along the middle, McArthur, Flamini, and Ledley, who would more or less 'sit' in there, but Jimmy Mac could occasionally get forward into the box. Flamini could be tried at the top of the three or 'pivot' as they say. Punch would stay in the number 10 role supporting Benteke. Ok, we might not score bucket loads, but you never know we might actually win a game!!!!

Hennessey

Tomkins Dann Delaney

Zaha Fryers
McArthur Flamini Ledley

Puncheon

Benteke

I have put Flamini in there because Cabaye is suspended on Saturday. Surely that is worth trying.

I like your plan and thinking
... but Napoleon had a plan at Waterloo and that went to sh1ite once the action started
My plan is to park a bus, Audi Q7, BMW X6 and a couple of hamburger vans in front of our goal and have all the outfield 10 players goal hanging for lucky rebounds off the stuff we parked in front of our goal

Because we seem totally confused in defence by systems we've been using for years (4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2) and to try that sort of radical change (which isn't one of the least popular formations in the PL without reason) against a decent side like Southampton (when we conceded five against the worst team in the league) will be an unmitigated disaster.

It doesn't matter if you play three, four, five or six at the back if you can't organise yourself at set-pieces and don't go with your man.

Opposition would also be delighted to see Zaha in his own half. He can't do any damage there. Just because Victor Moses has done well as a wing-back doesn't mean Wilf would. He's found the end product in his game. Need to make the most of it not take him back a step.

Push Ward to left-back, Tomkins to right-back. Get Damo back with Dann. Get Damo to organise the pack at corners etc. Just a thought.

Maybe Sako could be our Victor Moses at wing back?

I totally agree with this. Think Kelly out of the back 4 and put the most experienced in would be a good start to setting up correctly in defence
