1) They all need to practice penalties and decide who should take them. Benteke should do better than that and Gomes had committed himself before he hit the ball so even just passing it down the middle would have done.

2) I was more disappointed in the first half with the run down the left by Zaha that resulted in a fantastic cross into the box with Benteke just watching 20 yards behind play. He's the f**king main striker, get in the f**king box.

I made this point in an earlier post. Not the first time this has happened either. He has got to show himself to be more eager to impress Allardyce.

You are spot on, he needs to stop waiting around hoping the ball lands on his head, the Zaha cross yesterday was a great example of him being lazy, he needs to work the defence all the time when he does not have the ball pulling players out of position and creating spaces for others to run in and get scoring opportunities. We have every right to expect more from him at a cost of 27-32m (whoever you want to believe).

If doing it right, i.e. only deciding which corner to put it after you have seen the goalie go to one corner then it is excellent. However if the goalkeeper does not move you then have to put power to it, would not say blasting is the right phrase to use though as control is key. Basically Deeney's penalty was very very poor and Hennessy would have stopped it would he have stayed upright rather then dive to a random corner. Keepers must not do that because it looks silly if it goes in the corner but many a spot kick would be saved if keepers would choose to not dive.

If he puts the ball in the opposite corner to which the goalkeeper moves then people would say it was an excellent coolly taken penalty.

I happen to believe that by not blasting the ball you are always giving a goalkeeper a fair chance of saving it if he goes the right way.

Was he lazy when he won a penalty putting pressure on the backpass?

Or when he scored against Stoke from chasing a lost cause and pressuring the keeper?

He's far from lazy and gets through a ton of work.

I get the point about that particular cross, but i don't mind a striker dropping to the edge of the box occassionally. The one I was more annoyed with there was townsend, who should ALWAYS be at the back post if Wilf is putting a cross in.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

I agree, but it was a sh**e penalty. I was praying that he'd blast it - he has a phenominal shot after all.

Placing it can be obvious, he just needs to be more clever with his body deceiving movements if he's going to do that and to make sure that the ball goes much further away from the keeper, it was a very tame floppy kick made to look so much worse because Gomes read his run up beautifully, in the one against West Ham I think he blasted it (not 100% sure) and it missed the goal, lots to think about when taking these things and too much will result in that sort of kick.

A poor penalty, but Gomez has saved nearly one in three penalties he has faced which is a phenomenal record.

..and Benteke knew that, you could see it...that is some record to compare with Speroni.

I thought that Benteke's gambit was that he broke his stride and hesitated before kicking the ball so that the goalie made his choice first then Benteke kicked the ball to the opposite side.

However this is clearly not the case as evidenced on Monday when Gomes only moved after Benkeke had struck the ball.

Therefore his style is clearly flawed and also far to weak in execution.

.. points out that the keeper was either lucky or Benteke telegraphed his intentions and going by the fact that as 721 pointed out Gomes has a 1/3 success with them he obviously is very good at deciphering the enemies intentions which indicates that the kicker has to really make sure the ball is placed as far over as he can to make sure that when keepers do suss you out they have to pull off a great save, we wouldn't care half as much if the keeper had to do that would we, conclusion is that the ball was too close to the keeper making it appear too easy to save.

Probably - but it was still hit with power and might still have gone in unless he'd got caught it which might have been difficult. The problem with Benteke's is that it was so weak that if the keeper gets any body part in the way then it will stop it going in.

I'm sorry if you do not like the truth, he is lazy and does not work the ball unless it come to him, a good striker works the defence all the time when he does not have the ball this creates opportunities and spaces for other to move in to, Kloop is not stupid, if he thought he would fit in to his energetic precision play do you think he would have let him go!

Like Benteke but if Murray had been up front for the last 16 games there would not have been any significant difference performance and class wise.

We have over-paid massively but he is Prem quality at least. Something we always argued about where Gayle was concerned and still are.
