Also the tax on cigarettes, generates more money as a net, than the cost in health care. Maybe we should have a society where everyone is forced to exercise, monitored to make sure they don't break the health laws and those who transgress are sent to room 808 for re-education.

So if the negative and indulgent lifestyle choices of the minority impinge on the well-being of the majority then everyone is just supposed to accept it in the name of 'freedom' and 'democracy'? Football thugs back in the 70's and 80's would have approved of that. And if the NHS is brought to its knees, and in no small part by smokers and other 'avoidables', again we just have to wave it goodbye as it sails off into the distance? That's not freedom. That's just self-inflicted wounding. Direct action is needed for the benefit of the institution and its biggest problem is people who are ill, funnily enough. And £5billion a year, at least, of its funding goes on tobacco lovers. And the amount of medical and nursing hours spent on those patients? And the beds taken? They deserve treatment, of course, but as it is very much a lifestyle choice to make themselves ill i think it only fair they they stump up more than the rest and have private insurance too. When wasn't the NHS reported as being "in crisis"? Demand will always outstrip supply in this field. Patient demands are unconstrained by prices - even in private provision where an insurer will usually pick up the bill. Incentives to behave economically are practically non-existent too. Hence, "perpetual crisis".

Well I would respond, but the powers that be have decided to yellow carded me. This is basically a license for those inclined to abuse me with any accusations they please and I cannot respond in kind. Given that, I have decided not to bother posting. It's not a level playing field when you can get called a racist for having an opinion on immigration, with no punishment for the abuser, and get yellow carded for retaliation.
