It probably wouldn't be classed as a hate crime, unless it was directly linked with an act of violence, as Millwall fans are not a protected group in law. Individual speech is more protected. Personal opinions aren't crimes, unless you speak from a position of promoting discrimination. Well, Farage has a gender (male), he has a sexual orientation (hetrosexual), he has a race (Caucasian), he is arguably partially disabled after having cancer and surviving a helicopter crash, and has a religion (Christianity). Mind you I do appreciate that most these attributes will probably become illegal in themselves if 'progressive' politics stage a comeback.

Anyway... never mind about calling people Scum.... Since when did it become acceptable on here to continually call another poster a W@nker and get away with it? Clearly Pista has been yellow carded before participating in this thread and has called Painted the W word on numerous occasions without rebuke from a moderator. I have been carded for usage of that phrase and kept my head down for a month.... this bloke seems to be able to get away with it....

Well the statement didn't describe him as white scum, straight scum or Christian scum. As such its not discriminatory. He could arguably have claimed that it was racist, sexist, religious sectarianism etc, but he'd need to demonstrate that was the case. His options would thus be slander or libel should he seek redress.
