I love them!

I screamed with delight when the bangers went off!

I would like them at every away game.

I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that.

I hate those plastic clapper things that they have at Fulham and Leicester.

If a young child put it in their mouth, they could choke.

Or worse, they might vote Brexit.

Think the flare boys deserve a bit of leniency they are probably so excited as they have two weeks half term coming up maybe stewards should check their satchels and go through their lunch boxes

1. Half term is only a week.
2. It's the Easter holidays.

If you're gonna slag off our own fans, at least get the insult right!

Flares and bags....

Yup those were the days, the terraces were awash with them back in the 70's when I first started going to Selhurst.

You would even get the odd pair of loon pants.

As we used to stand in those days if it was windy all that surplus material didn't half flap about!

Exactly. I just don't think the police have had to witness such a great atmosphere there since we beat them last season. And anyhow, if they had gone in the home end I'm sure they would have found just as much if not more going by some of the Chelsea scum that I'm sure still goes to matches!

Have to disagree, Most Chelsea fans were sitting quietly in their seats. Have never been tro Stamford Bridge and seen our fans not just dominate the stadium but outside the ground. Singing outside ther Bridge not to long ago would gaurentee a punch up, these days Chelsea fans want to shake your hand and say well done. Four Chelsea fans stopped us and said are you Palace, thought we were going to have a kick off but they said well done and your fans were brilliant today. Drugs at football is commonplace, where there is drink there is drugs as some need both to get their pulses racing. I dont indulge but have no problem with those that do, not hurting anyone but themselves.

Flares I get - a bit of colour & atmosphere. That said, remembering that what happened at Bradford is one of the reasons they're banned, I can see both sides of the argument.

The bangers were, at best, naive. Less than 2 weeks after a terror attack a few miles down the road, a country on "severe' alert & knowing that football stadia have been targeted in the recent past you'd kinda think folk would steer clear.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some serious repercussions for this - not least because they managed to get the things into the ground in the first instance - makes the stewards/security/police look like they've failed & could be seen as an encouragement to those that would want to do serious harm.

As regards the gear, that's been around in different forms for as long as I can remember. As has already been said, there will have been a fair few on/carrying something Saturday, both home & away.

Upon entering the ground there were sniffer dogs, and lets not forget the overly friendly body search. Brighton fans can look forward to this next season.

Maybe someone did not do their job properly to enable fans to bring in flares etc. Palace fans are known for this, speak to any away steward or police officers.

Getting into Stamford Bridge is more difficult than Fort Knox. Two lots of being sniffed by a dog ,bag checked twice, showed ticket twice and thats before being confronted by about seven rows of assorted security and Met Police then of course you get to the turnstile. How the lads with the thunderflashes got past that lot god only knows.
No one got hurt so really do not know what all the fuss is about, great support from ALL at todays match.

If you are with a kid it's easy to take anything into the ground - Kids don't get searched at any point - same at Selhurst - they don't have the authority/people to search kids so if you want to bring something in that would normally be confiscated then get a kid to put it in their coat pockets.

It'd be interesting to note the age ranges of those for and against Flares/smoke bombs....as I've no doubt that has a part to play in our thoughts on the matter.

two weeks in wales dan lamb chasing season
may be fans but how long before an accident occurs must be a reason why there banned or do you feel its acceptable adult behaviour

Ah I see, only the one in London, so fair cop.

To be honest, I don't see anything wrong with flares or smoke bombs at an away game. In my opinion, they should set up areas specifically for letting off flares or smoke bombs (smoke bombs are safer, I think?). Having said that, in the UK it's illegal, so I wouldn't want to have any sanctions put on us. I would suggest a change of law in the same way we should be seeing safe standing instead of all seaters.

Its largely irresponsible, given the risks and lack of safety involved in both, but irresponsible is also fun.

There are genuine issues with flares (not least to do with the temperature they burn at, and the smoke they give off), in a confined space of a crowd, in the hands of someone with no professional training in how to properly handle such things (or the kind of chemical used in the flare / smoke bomb).

Then there is the noise of the bangers, which of course as a surprise can have 'unintended' effects on crowd members beyond atmospheric (not to mention the risks associated with smuggling in the devices in the first place).

Probably the best option, going forwards, really would be for the FA to allow clubs to utilise 'official smoke displays' to some extent for home and away fans in advance.
