Is Damien staying for another season. Thought it was unlikely but this article suggests he has signed a one year extension.

If it's true, it's yet another overly romantic decision and proves we aren't learning from our mistakes. Continuing to pay the wages of a 35 year old who isn't good enough anymore, when we could be using the money on Sakho instead.

So do you know what else he does behind the scenes?

It is odd unless they intend on having 5 CBs but know we need 1 who is ok with hardly ever playing, same as Fraizer Campbell. I doubt we'd be able to sign many proven prem players as last resorts in the squad with them agreeing they'll just about make league cup matches. They just wouldn't sign or would cost money that's a waste.

There is also the issue that if we let all the fringe players leave we'd be down to 15 players. I cannot see us signing enough players this summer to have 2 players for every position so there's going to be 1 year extensions for a couple of years.

First, I'd like to say that I was glad to see him get on for a few minutes on Sunday. He also made a couple of useful interceptions and blocks.

In a perfect world there'd be no room for Damo in our squad but we don't live in a perfect world and we aren't Chelsea or Manure. There are bound to be some relatively weak players in our squad.

We should have Dann and Tomkins next season. If we're really lucky we'll have Sakho too.

Realistically who are we going to sign who is going to want to be 4th choice behind those three? To me it makes sense to renew the contracts of people like Delaney and Kelly. Delaney in particular isn't going to command a huge wage. I doubt sentiment comes into it, if Sam didn't think Delaney could play some sort of part I very much doubt we'd be offering him a contract.

Looks like we won't be able to afford Sahko so we need another good quality CB. Both Tomkins and Kelly can play RB as well as CB as well as Dann,we also have too good players at LB in Schlupp and Van Aanholt. Sam has no confidence that Delaney is up to it, he even preferred to stick a LB instead of Delaney against City. I can't realistically see a future for Delaney

Or they have learnt to keep the squad players that wanna be there and bleed red and blue and do more than we know.

If Kelly, Dan or Tomkins is injured, he steps up to sit on the bench, simple.

This was once a quality forum....

Damo is with us for another season. He has been a very loyal servant to the club but you would imagine that if an offer of American or Chinese football with its incumbent loadsamoney came along then his contract would be cancelled by mutual consent.

Moving on to Sakho, he may well come back to us even if his fee is £30M. Moving a team forward inevitably means paying more for players these days, especially if your academy is producing nothing. Then a Sakho/Tomkins partnership would be our best choice followed by a Sakho/Kelly one.

Taking the bungy jump since 1964. Never to see John Jackson in a shirt again

Sorry to see Lee Hills go, did we ever see Alex Marrow? We did January 2013

Yes it is more than a rumour that he has been given a 1 year extension to his contract.
Clubs do need these sorts of players-happy to spend most of the season on the bench with possible fleeting appearances in games and cup matches.

Damo can still fit that bill as did Hangeland before him.

Hopefully we will not be in the same dire defensive injury position next season we found ourselves in this one!

By doing this Palace are probably taking the least costly option of having defensive CB squad cover whilst allocating sufficient funding for affording to bid for Sakho as well!

Have a wee look at the ages of some of Italy's finest defenders when they finished playing.

Damo may not be world class but he is a leader, is vastly experienced and provides excellent cover.

I also suspect he is on very reasonable wages.

To suggest he has been a major part of our problems in recent years is ridiculous quite frankly.

Have you told Parish and Allardyce that they don't know what they are doing?
