That is a good piece actually, and the suggestion that Sam felt he was unable to do anymore here than save us from relegation may well say more about us than it does about him.

It's a good question. No point thinking the worst about SP (as I initially did), as we just don't know. Sam never looked 'right' after the England debacle, and this could be a mix of:

> nothing to do with Parish just him having enough mentally and emotionally,
> nothing to do with Parish just family issues
> nothing to do with Parish but health issues
> him not willing to commit to a stressful tenure where he has to fight with Parish to get his squad
> Parish and him falling out over business dealings and he's decided to leave graciously

Besides all or none of the above, I think Sam's failed England tenure rocked him. He's had enough. He's over it. But it looks too abrupt a departure for me to believe he planned it this way. I don't know what happened, but I think he was hoping he wouldn't have to put up with anymore 'fork-tongue' bullsh1t, as that's what (he feels I think) lost him his England job, and when he got a taste of it again (I know, pure conjecture) he said "F@CK IT", and as he was always on the brink of retiring anyway, he's left as quickly and as graciously as he could.

And this 'pure conjecture' of mine, if true, begs the question, of Parish's knack for f@cking managers off.

I imagine that transfer windows can be very tiring mentally and frustrating although enjoyable and challenging for the manager in so much as he can make changes he feel are required in changing the side with the resources whether these be in transfer fees or wages he has and that would apply to ALL managers.

I wonder if before you had the two transfer windows managers found it better because he could change the side during the season rather than the pressure of knowing you had one big chance (during the close season) and a smaller chance (during January) to make changes and get it right.

I find it stressful enough choosing players for my fantasy football team at the beginning of the season and the two chances you have during it for no penalty points!

My thanks to Sam and back up staff in saving us from relegation. Great job done.

Normally a new poster joins a thread rather than starting a new one.
You carry on believing them all.
In my opinion another Trolley.

Sam didn't have to make statement he did.

I think that we should take it at face value. I suspect that there is something behind the decision and we may never know what it is (I suspect it is personal)

I suggest that after Man U game he went home to his family who I think still live in Bolton and what ever this issue was they discussed it and he decided to call it a day.

We need to thank Sam for what he has done but both the Club and Sam now need to move on

BFS is not known for keeping his opinions to himself. If there was anything untoward then he would let it be known.

In the absence of any other information, I think we need to take his statement at face value. Hopefully the timing of his departure will work in our favour and we are able to find a good replacement quickly.

Please don't think that I am 'anti-Parish' by this post as I am the exact opposite and I really don't give a f@ck if you don't believe that. Parish is the greatest thing to happen to Palace and I don't want him to go at all. I would be devastated if he did. It's just that I have always been interested in personalities. Parish IMO is a left brainer and while he's good with numbers he probably isn't so hot with people. Not 'managing' people, yes he's good at managing people at levels beneath him, but 'getting on' with people socially. A lot of successful entrepenures are loner types like this. A clue to his deficiencies with dealing with people (on his same level) is Mark Bright. Now Brighty comes over as a very gentle and empathetic personality, which is why I think Parish spends so much time with him - Parish is smart enough to know his own weaknesses.

If my theory is correct and these rumours are true then waking up to the news he did yesterday and the suspected personal interest / being effected by it it's entirely feesable he had what I keep referring to as a lightbulb moment. Cliche I accept but don't know how else to describe it..
