Silva took over at Hull when they had just 13 points from 20 games and had only managed 6 points in their previous 17. They had the worst defence and worst attack in the league and sold their two best players in January.

Under Silva they went on to get 34 points; 21 in 18 matches. Over a season that would have been enough for around 44 points, one away from the top half, and that was with a load of loan signings and a squad of about 15 players.

On top of what he achieved in Portugal and Greece, I'd say that was a pretty impressive record.

What I want to enphasize is that shows what is done in the past with the resouces that he had. It doesn't necessarily means what he will do in the future with different resouces.

Which is exactly what you'd want from a manager. All this stuff about our style is simply trying to create a coherent narrative from different pragmatic solutions arrived at by different managers. Pulis' 'style' was not the same as Allardyce nor what one would expect if you had expected him to recreate the way Stoke played under him.

Silva does have limited experience but has made the teams he has gone to better than they were, in different contexts. That seems like a very good start point to consider him seriously and, to my non-expert mind, the best option of those touted.

What really has he achieved in Portugal and Greece ?
Winning the league with Olympiakos who win it virtually every year, in fact have won it 16 times since 2000!
Winning the cup in Portugal with Sporting who are only 1 of 3 teams who win anything there.
If his achievements were that great, Hull probably wouldn't have been able to entice him to the club.
Let's put this all in perspective and not go "Overboard" please.

I'd take Silva. All senior recruitment comes with major risk.

I think he'd get us to mid/upper mid table and playing better football.

Think people are blinkered by the battering we gave Hull but don't think that was representative of him.

Challenge for any manager will be keeping Wilf and signing key targets.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

SP has Luka as a due diligence reference point for the quality of Marco Silva during their time at Olympiacos.

Didn't you read this from earlier in the thread?

Silva has an excellent track record when you look at the resources he had to work with at the clubs he managed.

Managing Estoril in Portugal, he took them to new heights they had never seen before. Won the second division, got them qualified for Europa league for 2 seasons straight after promotion.

Went on to manage Sporting, where he won them the cup, finished 3rd, but was fired at season end for not wearing the clubs official suit at a game !

At Olympiacos he had an 80% win rate, including a memorable 3-2 win at Arsenal.

Like people have said before, he had the worst team in the league to work with, and came close to saving them. This guy would be fantastic to have here.

Yes of course I read it !
I still stand firmly by my sentiments.

I totally accept that he won titles in Portugal and Greece so well done to him but were the achievements that great when one looks at the bigger picture ?
If they WERE he would have been touted by much bigger clubs than Hull and Hull, at the bottom of the PL, would not have been able to entice him to the club.

So he arrived as a relative "Unknown" on the back of what I deem to be modest achievements (Bigger picture again!) he then has a "Negative" in that he gets relegated (Albeit extenuating circumstances) and all of a sudden he is lauded, is "Flavour of the month", the next Pochettino, the next Mourinho etc etc.

I just think many have gone "Overboard" in their praise of him based on his record.I'm NOT saying that he couldn't do really well in the future but let's NOT get carried away at the present time.

It's context. People are praising him in comparison to the other options not compared to the whole football managing world.

I am reliably informed by one of my contacts that Silva
• Took Estoril up immediately
• Won Manager of the Year
• Left them 4th in the top tier
• Won Sporting's first cup in 7 years
• 17 consecutive wins at Olympiakos
• 8 wins from 22 games at Hull
• 55% win ratio as a manager

I say one of my contacts, HLTCO on Twitter

the dignified don't even enter in the game
