Suspect Sakho will be packaged into any deal with Saints for VVD now anyway so that's probably that

My feeling on this is that every 10 years or so a player comes along who can change a whole club. Viera for Arsenal, Keane for Man Utd, Terry for Chelsea.

Sakho can be that player for us. It is not just the player's performances on the pitch that count. It is the fact that just having that player in the dressing room improves other players, makes them feel more confident.

In addition - as for the players named above - they make sure that their team-mates are protected, not bullied by other teams' "hard men".

This is why the fee for Sakho is not just about the player, it is about the team and the club as a whole.

This is why I would happily sacrifice Cabaye (who, globally has been a disappointment anyway) to get Sakho.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that, because the question was flawed in the first place. Cabaye is worth more to us than we could ever get by selling and we'd have to buy a replacement, which would be more expensive. So we'd actually have less money to spend on Sakho, not more.

I posted the question more to do we free up Cabaye wages. Less to do with getting a portion of Sakho price tag. Similar to last summer Benteke wouldn't of joined Palace, if we didn't receive the money bolasie sale.
Of course we need to replace Cabaye , if he was sold. Someone like Will Hughes would be on less wages to fill Cabaye role.

I know you said someone like Hughes... but yikes - that is not a like-for-like replacement. Cabaye is a France international, bags of experience. A terrier who can tackle and pass, though he seems to have forgotten how to accurately shoot, mind...

We would struggle to replace him with anything like the quality he has. When he got injured we stopped playing this season. Just wish we'd had Luka playing next to him from the start of the season.

So to answer a very flawed question. No

What?? Replace an international with a Derby County player? Are you serious? As for the wages he would obviously costs a fraction as there is no comparison!

Following Palace since 25 Feb 1978

Obviously I would want to keep Cabaye but if wage bill is excessive if we bought Sakho. A top earner would need to leave either Benteke, Zaha or Cabaye. Cabaye the most likely. I suggest Hughes as this season budget this season is low compared to others. If we only had 30m in transfer fees to spend plus money recouped. If we got 16m for Cabaye. Then we can purchase Sakho but it only leaves the Cabaye sale to strengthen the squad. I doubt you get a player as good a Cabaye now but with Hughes, he could develop into better than Cabaye.

There would be little sell on value in Cabaye and a replacement would be on similar wages.

Interesting to see Liverpool have cooled their interest in Salah as they see Roma placing an unrealistic value on him.

I wonder if they see any irony in that with regards to us and Sakho?

Probably not.

Big Sam proved how important Cabaye been since Jan, he been the player, we thought we signed. When he fired Newcastle up to 5th place. Given some interest shown in Cabaye. The only logical way of us buying Sakho is to sell Cabaye.

Should be entertain this if we could secure Sakho services?

No f***ing way. We'd then need to replace cabaye who is just as important in our side as you saw when he was missing for the few games at the end of the season
