Was discussing this earlier with someone. I've been quite amazed by how many Palace fans seem to think his days with us may be numbered and that Tomkins should be ahead of him in the pecking order.

If we go through last season, Dann and Tomkins were paired together during an absolutely awful time and it was pretty much the first time since he's been with the club that Dann really started putting a foot wrong. I think people forget that during that time Tomkins was poor as well and many wanted him out, as I understand it Dann played a few games injured as well. He then was out with injury, Tomkins stepped in and as the Sam effect started working we inevitably became a more solid unit and Tomkins was very impressive in his contribution. Dann regained fitness and Sam is renowned for not messing with a working system.

It's easy to forget that barring Wilf, Dann has pretty much been our best player since he came in. Bags a few but in my opinion has been a class act defensively as well. I find it mental that all of a sudden he now isn't fancied by quite a few. For me the new CB (Sakho or otherwise) and Dann should be the main pairing with Tomkins and a new younger CB as back up. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks he's a better player than Tomkins?

Tomkins has proven to be better than Dann. I can see him leaving in January

Dann two season ago a better player than Tomkins is now. Dann last season a worse player. Just had an off season has our Scott but if he comes back firing on all cylinders should be one of the first names on the team sheet imo. If not he is deadwood.

Agreed, he needs to be judged with a leader next to him rather than being asked to lead.

Tomkins performed best out of a bad bunch. And was lucky enough Dann was injured when Sakho arrived. Sakho would make anyone else next to him shine.

Jury is out on whose best.

Fact is neither can lead the line!

I don't go with that theory as he is/was a very assertive vocal player anyway and being captain should be an honour. Maybe the fire in his belly has gone. We shall see.

I didn't go along with it either for the same reason as you but the burden of captaincy did seem to be the generally held view on this forum for his lack of form
