I wonder if Punch could play wingback. He was sort of semi-successful at times as a deep lying playmaker last season, but the middle is a difficult area for him to operate, he seems to get more success out wide (due to his lack of aerial quality in the centre) but lacks the pace to play a winger in a 4-3-3.

In a 3-4-3 He might form a nice partnership with Townsend on the left. I don't think he's the toughest tackler in town but his new role as captain might see him step it up a gear and build on moments of defensive quality he briefly showed last season.

Puncheon as wingback would be disastrous, ATM Townsend has the engine to play that wingback role. I'd still prefer him in that right forward role.

Another question is ask is Schlupp or PVA before the preseason is assumed it was going to be Patrick with Schlupp covering both out wide and full back. It appears that Frank likes Schlupp he has started with him both games.

Although it's assumed that PVA would suit the wingback role, I think schlupp played in that role more in his career than PVA. I personally prefer schlupp.

Agreed but as I understand 343 versus 352 is that Andros would be RM rather than RWB or RW.

If Andros as you suggest pushes up which might make sense if he can improve his finishing then we don't have much cover at RM. Maybe Chungy and Sako until we can blood Wan-Bissaka or buy better.

3-5-2 would make more sense , give us that extra midfielder but often when Chelsea used it, they went with 2 defensive midfielders.

nah, Mili def doesn't want Def job, will be a matter of time before he becomes a liability there. Pretty sure RdB will pref Tompkins over Dann too considering Tompkins is slightly younger and a little better on the ball.

Now that article makes no mention of wing-backs whatsoever (the wide midfield players designated X6 and X7), but has the DM (X4) dropping back when the CBL or CBR (X2 and X3) are pulled out wide and the AM (X8) dropping deeper to cover. It just talks of X6 and X7 (the wide midfielders), pressuring out wide. It also talks of the two wide forward players (X9 and X11) putting in crosses; we have none of that because we're playing Zaha and Townsend 'inverted', so they keep cutting in, which is why Benteke is getting no service. Far be it from me to tell Frank how to do his job, but perhaps it's him that needs to have a read of that article.

Thanks,Schlupp is versatile so he should be ok on the right side, i think cabaye does better coming on as a sub but i think he leave this season.

For the 3-4-3 to work we need faster players especially at right and left CB so hoping we get in Chambers and Riedewald in.
