With the advent of Netflix, Prime, Showbox, Kodi my DVD collection is pretty redundant. In fact they're all in the roof.

I've just been having a sort out and have a 6ft pile which I'll probably take to the charity shop and that's just the start.

I don't feel attached to them as I do with old books.

Has anyone used these sites like Magpie where they'll buy them off you? I get the impression I'm going to be doing a lot of work go get back about £4.56?

I'll be watching this thread with interest, just moved house and I have a lot of old DVDs kicking around now - two cabinets worth. I suspect I'll be lucky to see more than the postage in terms of ebay.

You're right - you'll get next to nothing. Better to charity shop them and at least get the proceeds to a good cause.

I tried one of those old mobile phone sites when my last contract expired - 2 year old HTC One, they offered £6 (so I gave it to the kids to use to watch youtube etc)

Make digital copies of those that you want to keep and keep them on a hard drive.

Use a free trial rip program like MakeMKV.

Sure, get rid of them.....but don't expect to be booking a cruise on it.

p*** holds some re-sale value - Its generally true of most markets. Oddly though charity is very indignant when you try to donate GGG movies, despite the fact they'll get ten times the value of most DVDs. Turns out, people with cancer are very moral apparently about where the money for research comes from. Me, I'd could care less if my life was saved because of copies of Disney films or GGG Bukakkee swallowing movies.

It begs the question, if no one is buying DVDs who is buying them at charity shops.

Enough people to sell 30, but not enough to sell thousands of each title.

People are still buying them. I much prefer the sound quality from a DVD to the compressed sound that comes over the airwaves

Dicks like me who are trying to get rid of stuff and will then see a CD os some 80's has been and think "Oooh I'll play that in the car" - 1 week later it's with the EU CD Mountain in the roof.

I have still kept my VHS and cassette collection. No way my DVD's are going anytime soon.
Rarely watch any of them but they might be useful for my 'cinema room' when I win the lottery.

Just another example of the wasteful throwaway society we live in. Don't want it anymore, throw it away. Family life, morals, values. I blame Thatcher.

Problem with VHS, after getting used to DVDs and HD, is that the quality is almost too poor to wnk to, almost.
