Haven't seen enough of Wickham to make a judgement (but then I suppose not that many Palace fans have. I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt for the rest of this season if he is able to be fit. there may well be situations where Roy will want two big men up front and I fancy Wickham alongside Tosun rather than Benteke.

And close bracket.
But good point and think CW still has some in the locker.
He can read a game and that's really what all the best strikers do.
Aguero, sheringham, lineker, Shearer.
None lightning but right place right time.
Not that hes in that company but a similar thought pattern.
Defo not a vardy or mane due to being slower but with the correct supply CW could surprise us.

The good thing about the motivation that must keep Wickham going, is that he knows hes a good player and wants to prove it, just needs match fitness.. Hats off to him, so many injuries and hes back again!!.

Come on Wickham, one cracking goal and everyone will behind you... as for benteke, tactics at CP prevent him from being a top striker, when he goes some where else, right team, he will prove it!!

Roy on Sky sports today saying if he wants game time he might have to go elsewhere I think . Just caught the end of the interview

Seemed a strange call

Roy was very frank and honest in the interview, at least CW knows where he stands.

Nope, not a joke. Jokes tend to be followed with a 'haha' or 'lol' or some sort.

I meant it. I think CW could be awesome for us...and now he'll be resigned to the bench. Just my opinion.

CW on his day is a weapon that would scare any defence in this league.
Damn his fitness problems

Two good chances missed tonight.
The first one he tried to get a shot away on his right and ran into the defender, the second he struck wide with his weaker left foot.
He only played 25 minutes but looked knackered at the end.

To be fair players pace themselves to some degree dependant on how much time they have on the pitch . You wouldn't for instance expect anyone to chase down everything including lost causes if they start , you maybe would if you have thrown them on for the last ten minutes

I wouldn't read too much into anyone looking knackered after 25 minutes

First one, right thing to do as he was running out of space. Unfortunately for him, covering defender did well and got a foot in. Second one was a tight angle and always going to be hard. Gosh at least he's making runs and getting into positions. As evidenced by two recent goals where he got onto the end of tap ins (granted Fernandinho got there first for one of them).

Versus our supposed saviour new striker, who put an open chance into row Z.

Connor's a great striker...just needs minutes and confidence. IMO.

Definite asset once he's fully fit and back in some kind of form. I'd rather offload benteke than him.

I’d Love him to do really well, but he had practically an entire season 3/4 years ago with minimal competition, before all of the injuries, was ok in flashes, but on the whole not very good.
Since then he has lost a couple of yards of pace and his body has been in bits.
To call Connor Wickham a great striker is like callling Garry glitter a bit of a wrongun.

Made me laugh. I think we all agree Wickham would benefit from game time. If he could play week in week out for a championship team it would certainly aid his recovery. Then a strong pre season and he could be in contention next season.
This is all depending on whether he can stay injury free. If he can (and that's a big if)then again he could be like a new signing for next season.
