The royal family should be abolished. The royal family are a waste of money, live in palaces while others starve simply because they are born blue blooded, and are needlessly worshiped by a adoring public, who should be focusing on matters that affect them instead. Besides, who cares about two young people getting married. We live in a warped society where the royals are adored and the homeless ignored. Pretty sad really

There are a lot of mixed messages in your post with the only valid point being that the royal family are a waste of money and even that is debatable because of the intangible value that they bring to this country and it's economy

Apart from the ridiculous amount of private land they and their extended family own across the uk, which if some of it were built on would certainly help the housing crisis, they are not a bad bunch really even if they do take the p1ss with our benefits system too.

What is the point of Prince Andrew and Edward though the posh scroungers? And that bloke who only turns up at Wimbledon to earn his benefits crust?

They need reforming.

Not sure about mixed messages thought I was quite clear.
Economy? if your talking about tourism, and the myth that people come and visit the UK especially the yanks because of them is just that a myth.
Paris/France have always attracted more tourist to their country /city than the UK.
It seems history, culture surpasses any Royal link there.
According to fresh research by Brand Finance, the value of the monarchy has been placed at an estimated £56.7 billion. This figure includes the value of tangible assets such as the Crown Estate, the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster and the Crown Jewels imagine that figure being put back into the economy. When these tangible assets are stripped out, the total value of the monarchy to the UK’s economy is an estimated £1.155 billion for 2015, according to their research.Campaign group Republic, which calls for the abolition of the monarchy, claims that it’s own research shows the monarchy costs the UK £334 million a year, with each “working royal” costing the taxpayer £18.5 million a piece.

There isn’t any evidence to suggest there is any economic benefit to the royal family,”

A planned £369 million refurbishment to Buckingham Palace. Who will pay for that? and how many new houses could that help to build?
I don't know, i'm not an economist, but there is something inherently wrong if the tax payer pays for it. Unless, of course the public can use these premises in the same way free access, staying the night etc..then that's ok.

According to most statistics London attracts more visitors than Paris

Surely the vast majority of visitors to London come to see it's history which is intrinsically tied up with the Royal Family.

This link is an interesting article on the intangible value of the Royals

a fraction of the costs of refurbishing the houses of parliament, who will pay for that ? Or should we let them all crumble to ruin?

Also less than 1% of cost of replacing trident or a few tornado rockets we fire into the middle east,

probably 0.01% of the annual welfare bill or 5% of the foreign aid budget ?

Are all the things we spend money on worth every penny? depends on your political angle

People heavily criticise the Royals because they are always in the public eye and therefore an easy target. They do bring in more in revenue than they cost the taxpayer, which is a proven fact, and even if they do cost it is a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things

Blimey, you and I agree 100% on this Park Road.

Just step back for one moment and think about what it says about us as a country that we address a group of people as Your Royal "Highness"...

There are financial benefits from tourism and masses of financial minuses from having a royal family but personally I'd rather we got away from an international perception of being a ruritanian theme park with a PR managed "soap opera" royal family....yuk.

CNN qoute was the most interesting and straight to the point I found, when reading those links.

"when it comes to comparisons between London and Paris, there are only lies, damn lies and statistics."

I think that sums it up,perfectly.

stranger things happen at sea

It's funny we call ourselves a democracy with an un elected head of state. Sounds a bit hypocritical.
It's 2017 soon to be 18, and we still have a family who expect you to kneel or curtsy when meeting them, but worse than that, we have a a good majority of the British public who don't mind doing that, and think its acceptable or even normal.
