If you read the whole piece, in the context of her remarks, what she says has a great deal of truth and common sense in it.

Racism has only been mentioned by you. I haven't accused anyone of racism. I have only suggested that not simply referring to criminals as criminals is unwise as it doesn't help solve the problem.

If you feel victimised by being described as a racist then look elsewhere. I haven't done it.

You have never accused anyone of being racist! Really? Unbelievable

With regard to this debate what attitudes are disgraceful? Calling the gangs for what they are? Not one poster on here has tarred all pakistanis with the same brush, it is you who has insinuated they have. Perhaps you should look at your own attitude towards people before casting aspersions.

People are not though "calling the gangs for what they are"! They might not specifically suggest that all pakistanis are involved but that won't stop the slur being felt. It's that which matters because it's outcomes which produce results and not righteous claims.

It's the "****-bashing" undertones which characterise many of the comments which I regard as disgraceful. Not of themselves but because they fail to recognise the harm they are doing to finding an actual solution to a very nasty problem.

In this thread, in this context, I have not.

It's not a term I use lightly, if ever.

That people think they have been so accused is quite another matter.

Some of these men probably not. They need to be found and then dealt with in a way that removes any possibility of re-offending. That is a huge and very expensive challenge.

Some can though, working through and with the leaders of their communities. More importantly it's the coming generations who need to be steered off that track.

This isn't pakistan. There are many contrary influences here which need to be harnessed to change mindsets.

Speak to a British educated younger Muslim and they are as horrified at the concept of honour killings as the rest of us. They are the future and it's their attitudes that need to be maximised.

Ostracising whole communities isn't wise, which is the primary point I am trying to make.

With regard to your first paragraph, the fact that the authorities refused to go after these gangs initially is what many people are angry about. It is a fact that no action was taken because they were Asian gangs, something that is not up for debate. All that happened was basically the girls were the accused.

Maybe it is you hat see the undertones as it suits your narrative

yet you are the only one to use the term p***?? Strange that!!
If these gangs are of Asian descent why would we not be allowed to say so, surely thats what caused the problem in the first place, the police and others trying to cover up these crimes in the interest of racial harmony?

Saying they are "of Asian descent" would be a lot better than using "pakistani", which is what is actually done.

No-one is "covering up the crimes"! It's that kind of inference which is so ridiculous. Prosecutions have, and are, happening.

If the Police, and other involved agencies, believe publicity will help them then no doubt they will seek it. If they don't and prefer they do their work quietly then best we respect that.

So it would be better to include Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Malay etc. etc. I'm not sure they would agree.
