Right. That's the Middle East sorted out then. Makes you wonder why they don't just snap out of it. We are lucky. We live in a society where we have the opportunity to think freely. That's not true everywhere and whilst a shrinking world and international travel will eventually bear fruit, it takes time.

They've had 2000 years so far. How long is it supposed to take?

Strangely, and unusually, I agree with you. So what are the fundamentals of human nature? Whilst there has been a lot of debate about this over the ages there is now a general acceptance that humans have the capacity to be good, even though they are not all good. They possess the senses of compassion, shame, distain, respect, courtesy, right and wrong.Humans have a constitution comprising emotional predispositions that direct them to goodness. We are all humans. Religious belief is secondary. Ok, so go to Afghanistan and ask the women and girls how this religious belief thing is working out for them; to put just one example out there!

Everyone has the opportunity to think freely ( except perhaps when the thought police accuse you of silently praying ) Behaving as such is another thing FYI the two are different
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I think the sentences should be subject to an increase due to the 'racism' element of the crimes. All the Paedos were of Asian heritage and all the victims were white. Surely the racism element would incur a significant increase in the jail time.?

Despite you singing along to “I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke”, human history, from ancient times to the present, is one long litany of wars, genocide and madness. In many cases, at the root of these events are differences in race, language, culture and religion (both spiritual and secular).

I don’t know how much you have travelled but the thing that strikes me wherever I go is how similar people are at a human level. People are warm and welcoming. Their culture may not be, but get past that and they are. I am not blind to the problems but I still believe in the strength of humanity.

There are though laws which prohibit intimidation which the police have to administer. Behaviour indeed being different to thought.

I guess you would need to see the evidence that was presented and admissible to know whether a racial motivation was proven. It might look obvious but that’s not proof.

Tap into that and the differences can and are eroded. Look at the Good Friday agreement. When I was in Israel some years ago I met a hugely impressive Israeli man who cared for local Arab kids with real love and compassion. Such people exist.

An Indian friend told me that there is much familiarity with Muslim gangs targeting Hindu girls over there. It seems to go back hundreds of years. But seemingly the community-backlash can be a lot firmer than anything seen in places like Rotherham.
