There have been times where I have found you to be a frustrating poster, and other times when your posts contain an interesting detail or thought.

On balance, I'm not a huge fan of your posts, but I'm sure loads of people would say the same about mine. All good. That's life. Tally ho!

However, I am finding the endless to-and-fro of responses where people question your integrity, and you respond as you do, to be incredibly dull. Because of this, whenever I read through threads, I just look for large sections where your name is not mentioned. (Sorry -- please don't be offended, no offence meant, I'm just so used to seeing the ensuing mini storm of repetitive dirge).

That is not good for discussing the matters in question or, by extension, these forums. The bottom line is that, regardless of whether you deserve the abuse you get, the comments you make and the responses to them aren't proving good for discussion.

So I had a few polite thoughts for you:

have you considered

1) simply not making reference to the large group of contacts you say you know in the game? For whatever reason, this in particular seems to grate on people and can eat up 4 screens with off-topic, indiluted tedium where you are defending yourself.

2) reviewing the specifics of what has irked people over a multiple ``let's not turn this into another willo thread'' and considering what you could have done differently to avoid the friction? It is not reasonable to assume that it's everybody else, when you are the lightning rod.

3) starting your own permanent thread -- maybe something like Willo Wonders. Naturally, a quid pro quo would be that you post much less frequently in other threads, but nothing would stop you commenting on those threads in your own one (if the moderators allowed such a thing).

Some people will read Willo Wonders and love it, the doubters will /should ignore it you in peace. Everyone's a winner.

Regardless, I think that you need to look at the fact you are, for whatever reason, the common denominator for a lot of off-topic posts. Are you asking yourself what you could change to stop that happening?

PS: Whatever people think of Willo, can I humbly suggest not piling into this thread in a way that pushes him into a defensive mode as it would be lovely to sort this.

Just to be clear: I don't want you to stop posting, Willo. I want an end to the regular thread derailments. And I think you can be more self aware and consider what things rile people and whether you can tweak how you deliver some of your posts. But it's to the detriment of this website that the derailments happen so often.
