Interesting comment right at the end

"It could be that Getafe agreed to the amount but didn’t want it used as a marketing ploy by the player and his agents, so it was supposed to be secret. Crystal Palace offering €4m + €1 would show they know of the clause.

Whilst that’s just a theory it could explain why Getafe are said to have been furious with how this has all panned out."

I actually thought Steeeve was a very good gk. Then he got injured didn’t seem prepared to fight for his place back, got the sulks and just wanted out. Indeed it wd be a nightmare if the same kind of stuff were to happen toGuaita, but there’s no particular reason to suppose that it might

Getafe only have themselves to blame, you aren't meant to tell a player that they can get out for half their price and not expect them to tell another club when they want out. The thing is that they don't have to accept even the buy out clause in his contract, just consider it.

I'm wondering where they even get 8 million from considering that they picked him up on a free and Transfermarket reckon his current value is 2.7 mill or so. This is what happens when a Premiership side comes calling - all of whom of course have bags of money just lying around.

When has transfer market ever been right? Always a fraction of the price it seems to me.

That or a more accurate representation of the actual global market. Premiership transfer fees are grossly inflated and continually rising.

I remember Vic Rouse very well.
You are right about him being Palace's first international player and the first from the Fourth division. According to Wiki he played 238 games for Palace. I was a schooolboy goalkeeper at the time so he was my role model. If he i still going he would be 82 but I have not seem him at the players re-unions that Palace sometimes organise.

Don`t forget Ronnie Allen welsh international.

I thought Johnny Byrne was first from 4th Division or was that England International

That is wrong if you have a release clause and a club meets it the club can do nothing about it but offer a new contract to the player hoping he will sign it so he stays at the club.

Because you buy someone for free doesn't mean that is all they are worth so I am not what you are on about.

If the club values him at that then that is down to them this is how anything works when it comes to value it's just a sum someone puts on something.

Nothing to do with Prem team calling the guy has a contract the club can put whatever price they like on him but because his deals up soon if Prem clubs waits he goes for free or you meet the release clause.

didnt he injure himself in an accident at home or something?

So you think that the fact that the Premiership is awash with money has nothing to do with the price that gets quoted for a player? I guess that the minus 772 million transfer earnings in the Premiership in 2016/2017 must just be down to the fact that Premiership clubs chose to buy all the most expensive players they could find and nothing whatsoever to do with selling clubs recognising a golden goose when they see one coming.
