Why didn't we just get guaita in and pay his release clause absolutely ridiculous now there paying more money out in terms of wages over the course of the next 3months of the season which most probably adds up to 500k business sense is abysmal

No, if Guaita agreed a free agent move then we should've got the Ronnow guy in. The aim was to have both in next season anyway. Should've aimed for the two. Instead we aimed for 1 and got none.

It's amazing isn't it. Put us in a ridiculous situation, over two separate windows, and now we're supposed to credit him with having t be forced by his own ineptitude to looking in the Free Transfer (AKA players no one else employs, damaged goods, the unfit and semi-retired) for one of the most vital positions on the pitch.

Bravo.

It is Valentines Day.

Oh boy, here we go again. Fighting for survival. The idea that just staying up is a Palace success is getting boring. A transfer window coms and goes and what do we get, one striker, who will hopefully do what the much overrated Benteke cannot do. Score goals. He misses loads and seems to want the ball put on his head instead of going for the ball. Waste of money, sell him atr the next opportunity. Hennesey? has a good game now and then but generally rubbish. Much like the defense. I believe the team in general are not as fit as they should be hense all the injuries. The one thing that Pulis did apart from keeping us up with many excellent wins, was get them all fit. I cannot see us staying up with the current remaining players. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't think the injury list is to do with the fitness régime per se, compare points won or dropped after 85 minutes now with under Pardew. However it's hard to think it's all coincidence; refs not protecting players is a factor in some of them and in others (Puncheon) player stup^H^H^H^H judgement should also be taken into account.

According to Brazilian sources, Cavalieri was sidelined by Fluminense´s head coach, and is at loggerheads with the Board over backpay, image rights, and so on. He is set on suing the club over this, and no small amount is involved. He is said to be on a contract worth the equivalent of 20 thousand pounds a week expiring in 2019. Fluminense´s finances are reported to be somewhat debilitated, and for some time results in Brazil´s Serie A have not exactly flattered, so sponsorship might well be a problem, though that is personal conjecture, compared to recently more successful rivals, consistently involved in the Libertadores. So, since Roy knows him well from his time at Liverpool, Cavalieri has Premier League experience, is familiar with England and should know his way around, and is no doubt capable of communicating well in the English language, there is a good chance he will turn out to be a suitable addition. He is also renowned as an above average penalty stopper. So all in all, in my opinion, I myself am more than satisfied to welcome him as the 25th squad member. Despite my location as a permanent resident in Brazil, where I have mostly lived for the past half century, my allegiance to Palace goes back to that emblematic home fixture against Peterboro in 1961, whilst I was also at the FA Cup Third Round encounter at Villa Park in the first week of January 1962, when apparently a gust of wind prevented us from earning a replay. May I also add that Brazilian goalkeepers on the whole are a cut above average, although, in recent times, players such as Marcos, who only ever played for Palmeiras, Rogério Seni, who only played for São Paulo, both now retired, plus Fábio, Cruzeiro´s first choice goalkeeper for many years now, might have made much more money away from Brazil for top clubs on the old continent, but wisely played it safe, as their clubs haven´t delayed them payment, besides which, they are family men. Cavalieri, one reads, is not quite the same, and is likely to arrive single! So let´s get behind Diego and give him a roaring reception. He could well be worth his weight in gold, not only on the field, but also in the dressing room. Thoughts?

PS For the uninitiated, Fluminense is a Rio de Janeiro club with passionate supporters, so, with Cavalieri reportedly taking the club to court to claim a lot of money, and Rio being the violent place is known to be, his flying away from the scene might well seem a sensible move. It is also interesting to note that Brazil´s first choice goalkeeper for the 2014 World Cup was Julio Cesar, who, at the time, was playing for QPR, relegated that season. Boy, did he get a lot of practice! Maybe Cavalieri has a similar case in mind, in that he will have a chance to show his worth at a lesser Premiership club, and thus be reconsidered at least as a stand-by, while perhaps not onn the plane, although maybe we are a bit too far down to the wire for that.
