Is it me or would have Pat Jennings caught Kane's header one-handed?

I still regard Jennings as the best keeper I have ever seen so its a slightly unfair comparison.

Like others I have been a critic of Wayne but today he was great and does not deserve any flack.

The low second half save he made today was incredible considering how little time he would have had to see it.

It's great having hindsight and all but given that we were clearly playing for a draw I wonder why Roy didn't bring Souare on instead of Lee and pushed PVA into Townsend's position. At least we would have had two defenders then rather than Lee who clearly isn't.

Was playing in the U23s in the week wasn't he? I think there's an important point being missed here as well though, which is that if the player isn't ready from a match-sharp point of view sticking him into a pressure cooker and having him fail could do serious damage. I would think though that from this point forward we will see his name down where we used to see Delaney's.

Rakip was on the bench and I'm surprised he wasn't used instead of the Lee, who was again useless. Perhaps the same point applies.

You can't dig anyone out for today.
They all did bloody well and nearly got a point!
That kind of spirit might just see us survive.

Maybe but would Jennings have tipped the low one bound for the corner round the post. Best save I’ve seen him make since he’s been here.

I agree about the previous save...but I'm old school insofar as I want keepers to make a rare error or none, not lots of them.

Otherwise, it's a bit like saying you're a good driver but every now and then you knock someone over,

Having seen the quality that Jennings consistently produced I would have to say 'yes he would have'.

Agree. The fact that I feel gutted is that we played well enough for me to believe that we could get a point only to have that dashed at the last moment. Had it been 3-0 or something I wouldn't have felt half as disappointed.

Yeah I see your point, he was an amazing keeper. Wasn’t comparing WH to him by the way - more that he made some saves that you wouldnt expect your keeper to make and that he was overall very good today. Still scares the crap out of me mind.

Thought it was a really professional performance today and we were so unlucky not to get a point.

This has probably been mentioned (and I apologise if it has) but where is our new defender signing Jaroslaw Jach? We have a defender injury crisis and he is not even on the bench. He's had four to five weeks to get fit - is he injured? Or is he just not good enough and someone has dropped the ball again!

First match 5th October 1974 - not a good day!

Fair enough. But we were hugely under the cosh today. Almost constant pressure is going to lead to a mistake from most keepers (though I don’t see it as a mistake per se but yeah not great keeping either). Funny how we are talking about WH (again). You could say Delaney was at fault or Wan Bissaka for allowing the corner instead of clearing it. But again it’s the keeper that gets the scrutiny. One who played well today, imo. Not the keeper I would want us to have between the sticks but as another poster has said it’s harsh digging anyone out today.

I know all keepers make errors, just the he makes more of them.....there is no excuse for todays goal it was vry saveable by all premier league keepers.....didnt say we lost BECAUSE of him did I?? I know benteke is crap and we are not scoring, but the keeper should save that! Thats what hes paid for.....few weeks back Speroni was slaughtered for a header that went over his head, Wayne does the same thing and you defend him...
