Wilf is at his best when he isn't overthinking things. He is a maverick and he just needs people to trust and support his abilities, even if occasionally he gets hot headed. I couldn't give a flying f*ck if that harms his ability to get a transfer to a big club. They would just use him up and toss him aside on their neverending conveyor belt of multi-million pound signings.

Wilf has a pretty good disciplinary record on the whole. He rarely gets red cards and that performance against Southampton was exceptionally poor from the ref.

All these comparisons to Hazard, I actually think Wilf is far more fouled than him but the statistics don’t show that because Hazard gets the protection from the referees and they spot them. With Wilf the sheer volume of fouls he receives means referees miss some whether by accident or by subconsciously trying to avoid blowing up 10 times a match for a foul on one player.

This^^

I'm sure someone can look up the stats in various places, but I doubt there are many sites that will show % of fouls that should have been given - and weren't. That is what winds Wilf and the fans up.

Does he react? Yes.
Does that make him a target? Yes.
Should referees give fouls when a player is fouled, regardless of that player's press profile? Absolutely yes.
Will that happen? Of course not.

And in a nutshell, that is the underlying issue. Referees will give fouls for Hazard (69 this season) and not always for Wilf (63)*. If he'd been given a bit more protection, I think those figures would be more equal - and Wilf has played 3 less games.

The other things that these do not take into account are the type of foul. Niggly pull backs to stop a breakaway are counted the same as a potential leg breaker. From the CFC football I have seen this season, Hazard does not get the same type of foul against him.

*figures from Talkshyte, so probably not entirely accurate.

It's a bit silly comparing Wilf with Hazard.
We're told Wilf should behave like the Chelsea man,and keep calm, don't get wound up.
But Hazard has no cause to get rattled because he always gets a free kick/penalty however minor the foul against him.
Whereas it's quite obvious that frequently Wilf has to endure several "robust" challenges before any punishment is issued against his assailant/assailants.

Agree - the stats are misleading and don't show fouls not awarded. We know from the Watford episode that Wilf is a target. And if the tackle on Andros against Southampton isn't even a free kick, the lack of consistency is glaring - and when it's you being kicked - very frustrating.

But he also complains on a lot of occasions when it's not actually a foul, but he believes it is . Seems to think every time he's tackled it's a foul. ...

I'm hoping that we're playing a blinder and the requesting of the hearing (with application made at the 11th hour) was enough to push the decision making beyond Saturday so he can play against West Ham and if he is banned, he sits out the cup game...

I'm not sure it works like that, mind.

Presumably if they make a decision tomorrow, he would still be banned for Saturday?

He should try a five game trial where he never so much as looks at, let alone questions, a single referee decision.

he's become as close as possible to a pantomime villain as far as away fans are concerned. their booing & mock anger, while idiotic, is also likely to influence the ref & wind him up. then he flaps his arms about, then they boo him more, then refs get influenced...and so it goes on.

even Watford fans -- Watford -- have got at him and influenced the refs

It has been suggested it’s a race issue, why Zaha isn’t getting protection from the refs in the media.
Why did he get a red card, whilst Barnes at Burnley had his face right in the linesman’s face shouting obscenities for not giving a foul and he wasn’t even booked.

Zaha was booked for the incident with Prowes because he went over to him for an argument, the Burnley incident didn't involve the player who fouled just the linesman, but he still should've been booked, no question.
Zaha was sent off because he ridiculed Marriner and Prowse, which was totally due to Marriner and prowse's incompetence.
Zaha was just too good for both of them.
