In moments of terrible weakness, I'll occasionally look at Palace news on newsnow. I think Stoke must have thought they had another star in Shaqiri but this season he has mostly been s***e. Mind you Wet Spam acquired Arnautovic from them and haven't exactly been brilliant either.

Better than "don't sell your star" though is "get more stars". Easier said than done, unfortunately. We might have thought Benteke was another star but this season he seems to have blown off his outer layers in a type II supernova eruption and turned into a black hole.

Wilf is 25 years old now and will be very aware that if he does want to try his hand at a higher level it has to be sooner rather than later. As such I fear that this could be the summer that we say goodbye to him.

For £70 million, I would say
