Our accounts show that we are paying player wages higher than is sensible for a club of our size and income. In order to attract and keep players we have paid both high transfer fees and wages with result that our transfer activity has been reduced.

We have 2 options

Firstly keep our current sort of profile a good first 11 with players on the bench who are solid professionals but not stars.

Secondly look at selling high earners who also have a high transfer value - Zaha, Sakho and even Benteke and Meyer. Lets assume both Zaha and Sakho go and we clear a figure of just over £100 million. Both would need replacing and rest could be used to purchase slightly better squad players. Assuming we buy 4 players abd they are paid an average of 60k per week our wage bill will not reduce.

I was listening to a radio programme this week about why Fulham failed and Sam Allardyce was interviewed, his view too many new faces and not good enough. Better to have 3 or 4 good players (30 million) than 8 or 9 mediocre (15 million). I am not sure he is right but if he is we are better keeping current situation.

I think if Zaha does go we will be looking for 80k plus and possibly looking for player exchanges as part of deal. For instance if Chelsea have ban suspended Loftus Cheek,Batshuayi/Abraham moving to us plus some money[/quote]

Doubtful. So you think those three will be paid less wages than Zaha?

The obvious way to reduce the wage bill would be to sell Benteke. We can certainly do without his services.

This paragraph questions whether we have progressed as a club, or we’ve just been spending too much to remain in the division. When we’re not spending too much then I’ll say we’re progressing. Until then it’s a bit false.

He can’t demand a move because he wants champions league football. Well he could, but he knows Parish won’t stand for any demands that put the club in a position to accept an unfair offer and Wilf will want to remain a local man for life and not wish he hadn’t done a,b or c making people think whatever of him.

If a champions league club offers an acceptable transfer fee and at least match his wages at Palace, he goes. It’s really that simple, but not definitely going to happen. All he can do is prove himself on the pitch. He hasn’t this season, until the last few games. Hmmm.

Quite.

I stand by what I said earlier in this thread. For a confidence player like him, I can't see any club that will guarantee him Champions League football, a regular start every week AND match his wages.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Wilf needs to leave to fulfil his potential or at least find out how good he is. He's in his prime and will benefit from better coaching/management elsewhere, and he will be getting too close to 30 if he doesn't leave now. Let's make some money and re-balance the team with some new talent. Cheers Wilf and good luck

You can only laugh at the drivel that these papers print and people should know better than to believe the mentioned tripe.

Wilf has said he wants to play Champions League football which is fair enough. He would be mad not to want to play in the CL. Yet the 2 clubs who are favourites to sign him are Arsenal and Man U who may not have champions league football for years to come.

It is no different from that rumour the papers have print for the last 6 windows about us signing that striker from Genoa or something. Absolute garbage

I may be misunderstanding your response. My point is that we are overspending both in terms of wages against income and also in terms of the transfer fees we have paid. This is not sustainable hence the lack of transfer activity in the last 2 windows

On one level we have progressed our longest stay in top division and possibly in the quality of the first choice players.

However in financial terms it is not healthy. Should we (can we)afford to pay players over 100k per week and buy players at around £30 million

Wilf hasn’t stated he wants to leave, we haven’t stated we want to sell, there is no story to this at all. In truth he most probably is too good for any team in Premiership apart from Man City.

If other teams want Wilf, they need to start putting the money where their big mouths are....

Other teams most certainly do want Wilf and may come up with the money. If Spurs win the Champions League I'd put money on them to come in with a tempting offer. It doesn't mean we'll sell Wilf but if we do, I hope we have a plan B?
