i recon, if we could sign michi that could persuade wilf to stay...michi seems like a really popular player and if wilf feels like he has somebody to put his play in the back of the net he will be happier here.

i am guessing he wants to see progress and michi would defo make that happen.

it is of course all ifs & buts, but wilf is earning a fortune at palace so its not a money move.

the issue is, and obvs wilf knows this, but if he was playing for a top side where he wasnt afforded the attention he is when teams play palace he would easily be seen as a world class player...lets be honest he is as good if not better than mane/william/rashford/martial/son/sane/mahrez.

I don’t think he is anywhere near mane level.
William, Son, sane and Mahrez have all proved themselves at the top level, Zara is still a gamble. Son would start in front of Zaha and I don’t think Wilf would even make the city bench.
Luke shaw won united fan and players player of the year, so the othe 2 must be considered as pretty pony at the moment. Although I’d expect rashford to become a top player.

Thing is, we are so close to european football... 3 more home wins, turning up at the qf's and a different story.. i dunno... i think wilf could create what he wants here with us but parish is broke.

Imo the real bar to Wilf moving before AWB is the likely price tag and wages. Who would be in for him?

Borussia tend to buy cheap. We all know about Levy and he would break their wage structure, though I guess the equation there may change if Eriksen goes for something massive. Arsenal probably need to win the Europa for Kroenke to spend big, United? But they have multiple problems to solve and are pretty well stocked out wide too - Lingard barely gets a game. I think they might be the most likely but again who knows - the history isn’t exactly great.

Yeah you have a gery good point. Plus Wilf’s value has got to start dropping at the age he is, unless he regains excellent form again, and even then I doubt he’ll be worth as much for long.

The other issue if and when Wilf leaves is that Man Utd sell on clause.
Even if we were to get £75m for him it appears that we may have to handover up to £15m of that to the Reds?
The £60m left is not a lot of money nowadays unless it is invested very wisely in a longer term strategy as other recent posters have alluded to.
I also agree with you - with Wilf in our team we just carry on doing one thing and never feel the need to adapt.
If he leaves then we have no option and given that Wilf isn't Peter Pan then just like paying your taxes - it's got to happen sooner or later like it or not!

True that 60 mill isn’t exactly a game changer nowadays. Bournemouth spent about that on Lerma, Mepham and Solanke combined. They could prove decent buys yet but really they’ve only increased squad depth there.

The big question for me is which manager should be trusted with the dosh. Is it better to wait for Roys successor who will presumably come in with a new scheme and need cash to restructure? Or is Roy the safe pair of hands?

(I’m assuming here that the inevitable is inevitable. I suppose I’m also assuming we get a choice in the matter - which may be less sure)

For what it's worth the BBC football gossip site saying that Arsenal want Wilf. Their offer is £40 million.

That seems a ridiculous valuation by Arsenal, they have always tried to nick players off us on the cheap...

With all the mounting column inches of Zahas supposed departure, there is one major factor that nobody has reported. Zaha hasn't handed in a transfer request, even after a supposed meeting with Parish last week.
That to me says he isn't desperate to move at all, its down to the club if they wish to sell him.

Not sure that’s meaningful - don’t transfer requests happen when there’s an impasse often with a club refusing an offer? I’d assume that would be a last resort for Wilf given his relationship with the club.

Did he hand in a transfer request last time? Can’t remember

As sad as it would be, I'm coming round to the idea of Wilf leaving.

Would love to reinvest the money (let's say £60-70m) in some young British talent:

Lookman (£20m according to the papers) Winger
Bowen (£20m) Winger
Aribo (£10-15m) CM
Batshuayi (£30m) ST

Total: £80-85m, yes it's more than the Zaha sale mentioned above but presumably we'd have a small budget besides the Zaha sale money. Also, losing Zaha's enormous wages (£135k per week) would free up some money.

This would also give us a bit more depth on the wings and may push Andros further if we have three quality wingers competing for two places.

Something like this I’d love me to see us do to enable us to be less restricted in several ways, but that would rely on us scouting successfully so instead we’d buy 2 proven and still stay limited.

that's the catch, knowing our scouts, we'll end up with some unknown league 2-level talent from the Scandinavian leagues.
