Ok, so even if you discredit Benteke's penalty (which is a nonsense argument, but we'll entertain it), that's 2 goals and 5 assists in 2187 mins compared to Townsend's 2 goals and 6 assists in 3000 minutes - the point still stands. Make it 7 assists for Townsend if you want.. It still stands.

I specifically remember you saying that Benteke's cup goals last year shouldn't be 'counted' when people highlighted that he had 17 goals, so to suggest Townsend's cup assist can now count is just more hypocrisy.

Off the top of my head, 3 wingers outside the top six with better numbers;

- Mahrez
- Shaqiri
- Zaha
- Gross (not quite a winger, but comparable role to Townsend)

See what names you came up with. All amazing players. The fact that Townsend is up there competing with these players means that he's great. Gross has the advantage that he takes all set pieces and his number of assists is big (but a great player in my opinion nonetheless, though relatively unknown).

Swap Townsend for any of Mahrez, Shaqiri, even Tadic or and I'll agree. But see if you can do that.

Heck, even swap him for Izquierdo, Jordon Ibe or Richarlison (though they are right footed and you'll be stuck without a proper left footed winger).

But truth is- Townsend is in top 5 left footed wingers in the PL outside of top 6 teams (and even with them included).

Milivojevic??????????

Took set pieces all year, didn't hit a single assist (edit: had one assist in the 34th matchday against Brighton, with only 4 matches to go until the end of the season, but it wasn't one of his set pieces). Makes you wonder why does he take set pieces actually? Ok, he scored 1 very nice goal from a free kick and is good from the penalty spot (7 of his 10 goals were from the penalty spot) but he couldn't cross for a goal an entire season despite taking set pieces!!

Guilty at plenty of goals (the one in the 90th minute against Man United easily comes to mind, but there were others too).

It's like fans here have a fascination with Milivojevic. Decent player but in no way player of the season. Not even a great season if you ask me, just a mediocre one.

Undoubtedly Zaha, Townsend, Tomkins, PVA, McArthur have kept this team up and deserve it a lot more.

I never said that. Others have brought up Milivojevic's goals and assist contribution. I didn't say it's what makes a good defensive midfielder.

Let's talk his defensive midfielder contribution if you'd like. His recoveries, his speed. And his set pieces

I think the main problem here is that you clearly have no idea what makes a good defensive midfielder.

Luka is not a classic defensive midfielder anyway, he likes to break forward a fair amount, not your typical sit back and hold like Jedi used to be, and from what I can see what Amadou looks like too.

Luka's passing is very good and he helps us move up the field a lot - this stuff isn't going to result in assists or chances created very often, but is still very valuable - particularly when Benteke is not playing and we can't go long.

You can't find stats on who has taken how many set pieces, but I am fairly confident that until recently Cabaye was taking most of the corners, and Andros takes a fair amount too so seems bizarre to judge him on those.

He also contributes a high amount of tackles and interceptions for a central midfielder. In my opinion he is pretty perfect to have in a 2 man midfield.

Yes he's made a couple of mistakes this season - but who hasn't?

And looking at offensive output - even allowing for his penalties, he has contributed more than Cabaye who is naturally more attacking.

After all that I wouldn't have him POTY, Wilf has been our best player by a considerable margin.

My top 5 this season:
1. Zaha
2. Luka
3. Tomkins
4. Townsend (I agree his creativity is underrated)

What Huddersfield free kick????? The one in the video I posted above? A decent effort, I admit, but nothing came of it. Maybe you're refferring to another Huddersfield match, but there haven't been any other goals against Huddersfield, so please tell me what free kick are you talking about please stop telling me about facts until you clarify this)

1st corner against Brighton was a trick. Kuddos to Luka for thinking it, but it doesn't show great corner delivery abilities.

All in all, 2 or 3 corners that resulted in goals in 30+ matches of taking corners in a Premier League season is not much

My apologies I meant the free kick against Bournemouth, surely with your extensive knowledge you remember that one.
Luka was not assigned as corner taker at the beginning of the season, it was Cabaye

Hit a nerve did he? Not a very pleasant response and must be bordering on a Yellow Card offence

You were trying to say that Luka should be runner up for POTY by posting:

"It's like fans here have a fascination with Milivojevic. Decent player but in no way player of the season. Not even a great season if you ask me, just a mediocre one.

You move the goalposts so often it's untrue.

I agree with what he said without the Luka in second place part.

Tomkins POTY.

Young player is tough, as AWB hasn't played many games and RLC has looked average as often as he's looked good, whilst missing a load of games.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

POTY - Milo

YPOTY - if Aaron gets a shout then shouldn't TFM as well for his contribution when we needed him? Overall though RLC should get it.
