He may have done better, sure, but look how they all ended, so it's not very hard - but in comparisons to present day chairmen, he isn't that good.

Twitter was around back then and quality not quantity and the saying 'wise council'

Parish is entitled to a holiday - sure - but to broadcast it over social media whilst he should be keeping a low profile as the club actively seeks improvement and you're not telling me his trip to the world cup isn't written off by palace?

And, i have a lot more respect for the yanks - why? they come in, give us money and let the club get on with it. They could be off to russia, getting pissed on by tarts for all we know, but we don't... that's the beauty - i'm just tired of parish actively putting us in relegation battles and then last minute spends that cripples us long term.

His side company - smoke and mirros should answer all you need to know

Who are these present day Chairmen, he isn't as good as and why?
Do you really think the yanks put money in and have just walked away and let the club spend it as they see fit.
The name of his side company is irrelevant.

ok... you honestly can't think of better chairmen that parish?
I said i respect the yanks for putting their money in for good use and go about their job without getting in the spotlight.
to name a side company smoke and mirrors is way too on the nose for me - but, it's all about opinions - we can agree that we disagree.

Just out of interest Vaibow, who do you think are better chairmen than Parish !

It would be helpful for Steve to explain our change of stance.
Palace were prepared to buy Amadou and Guita in January and were supposed to be after 4 players in total to strenghten a squad that was acknowledged to be weak.
Since then we’ve lost Cabaye,Delaney,Sako,Loftus Cheek and Lee off the wage bill and confirmed our place in the Premier League for the new season so the financial position should be stronger than in January.
Have the Americans reigned in their investment and are not prepared to sanction player purchases?
I’m not expecting Steve to go into extensive detail on the finances but just an outline on the change of stance which has led to people questioning his ambitions.

Plus loanees Fosu-Mensah and Rakip and Cavalieri was released (and replaced by our only signing so far, Guaita). So eight out and one in, to date.

Something really not right here.

I think the mistake was bringing in the Yanks as only investors.

You would think the Yanks could do as we are seeing with West Ham owners able to give the club gifts/loans as such but all they really are doing is funding stadium project.

We badly need signings if we do not bring in 5 players say good bye to Prem football no way the current squad can go through like last season.

I don't see how the club should be short of money anyway people are saying about high wages yes so wasn't it only last season Parish said he signed a top sponsor deal which is only beaten by the big clubs.

FFP I don't see as issue Parish said before it wasn't beginning of last season so I think it's more of him wanting to keep the books balanced not using any of his own money.

The other thing is Roy appears a top guy he's not the sort to do like Sam, Pullis walk because they didnt like what was going on this you could say is bad because Parish can get away with even more clear example is Jan window.

The final thing is what really puzzles me is we are alleged to have been close to signing people in Jan but deals was left to late and other clubs couldn't find replacements so why not sign those deals to go through in summer then if the transfer fees had been agreed already.

Not really comparable using West Ham as an example, they don’t have the costs of a stadium to finance, that is being done by the tax payer.

Transfers are now notoriously difficult with all the money floating about, unless you are just going to throw money at a transfer, clubs and agents just ramp up the price, so you can end up playing way over the odds for an average player.

The club and Parish not issuing a statement or their intentions is totally understandable, why would you want your competitors knowing your next move. People don’t seem to like it, but they will just have to leave it to the club to do what they feel is right. They have a much bigger vested interest in succeeding, therefore you could assume they are trying their hardest to get transfers in.

Not really looking for a detailed statement.
However, Steve talked last year about aspiring to be a regular top 10 club side who try to win a cup.
All the noises coming from the club now (admittedly not from him) are about survival and Roy himself has talked about budgetary constraints and the challenge of keeping the already small squad together let alone bringing new players in.
Fans are entitled to ask what is going on.

I am also frustrated. In looking at other clubs investing and have a mad case of the green eyed monster kicking in.

But...'what are our ambitions'? Do me a favour. We've just been granted planning permission for a new stand taking our capacity to over 32,000. We have the third best gk from la liga last season. We have PVA who cost lots and is coming on great, a 20m centre half in Sakho, Luka who cost a fair bit, a 30m cf in Benteke and a winger on our books on over 100k a week.

The reality is we hammered the market in recent years and with a new stand to build need to be sensible.

People p*ss me off on here. We've all seen what reckless spending did to us in the past. We've got a stand to build for goodness sake and these things cost!

So by all means be jealous at the West Ham's of this world. But, like being jealous of your neighbour buying a gorgeous new car or a family member getting a house you can only dream of, just recognise the harsh realities of life. You have to live within your means, particularly if you're planning long term.

I think the answer to that is there’s a few weeks of the window left and they don’t have to and may prefer not to broadcast their intentions.

not an excuse. those transfers were needed to bring the team to a decent PL level. Some of the money was mis-spent (Benteke and Schlupp), but it doesn't mean you stop improving. And spending.

If you can't get the money to bring in people, then it's a Sunderland-type season coming up (with half the season left, Sunderland sold PVA to us, they were desperate for money). Not sure why we need to expand the stadium, I don't know who'll fill it if we tumble down the leagues. But that's done now.

Again, not an excuse to not improve the squad. All the teams that tried to cheat the market failed, especially WBA and Swansea. Burnley is a weird exception, but honestly I wouldn't us to be Burnley, the second-blandest team last season after WBA.

More than ever, this season teams will know we're just Zaha+mates and that will hurt us.

I totally agree. It is not about a lack of ambition but about reality. We have spent a lot of money on some marquee players on high wages. We have made Wilf one of the best paid players in EPL. The end result is that we have a fairly ordinary squad outside our first choice players, many are solid EPL players but they are not superstars. The reality is we need to keep an eye on finances. I suspect we have money to spend but it will be to strengthen squad overall and may not be a "name". A lot will depend on fitness of our recently injured players. Wickham in particular if we think he is not going to be fit we need a striker and they are not cheap. We need a number of midfield players to replace Cabaye and RLC if he doesn't return (I think he will). We need backup for Wilf and Andros as Wingers as Kaikai is not EPL standard and its too early for Lokilo who it was rumored would be loaned out to a french side. At Central Defender do we need to replace Delaney ? is Dann going to be fit soon? are Jach or Innis good enough
