Being outside Europe is hardly a prerequisite for using a Cyrillic alphabet. Russian, White Russian and Bulgarian do for a start.

Precisely, Ferret. Just as Greek has its own alphabet, Greece also being in Europe. My point, as you will have gathered, was that Bernard does have European experience, playing for and against top European opposition, albeit in Kiev. Unlike yourself, some people seem not to appreciate tongue in cheek.
Caveat: although quite a number of Brazilian born footballers have repeatedly stood out favourably in the Premiership, their names hardly needing to be reminded of, that is not to say this particular one would fit in with Palace and London.

he's played in the champion's league - the etho-linguistic profile of his whereabouts is a side issue, though perhaps not to ferret, he is deep into these matters, what's more important is how you say 'Bernard', like the americans do with the emphasis on the NARD, or like the Brits 'BERN'D'?

Just update:
Chelsea seems to be favourites after they moved in. Should have moved faster for him.

I yearn for yesteryear when Brazil had player with fanatic names like Rivalino, Socrates etc. Now they have names like Alison and Miranda, Bernard and Fred. Just not the same.

Barca have signed Arthur and Malcom this window.

If he's off to Chelsea we stood no chance. They would have just moved quicker if we had made an offer.

Chelsea had no manager and was in turmoil at management level for half this summer window. Sarri wants some players, Conte wanted others, the President wanted others. It was known aboutt Bernard being a free agent since last winter. There was enough time for a club which knows what it wants to at least get close enough to get him, especially as his demands, like I wrote in this thread previously, weren't that big, 50k a week.
Benfica keeps offering him 40k a week and that's why he didn't accept. But at least Benfica is trying.

The Guardian have his demands in the 200K range and that's why no one has gone in for him. As with Meyer a good proportion of that 200K may be bonuses and signing on fees etc but its evident that the real cost is nowhere near your claimed 50K

That's not what every paper in Portugal or Italy has been writing in the last month. Look, this is from 4 days ago:

[Link]

"Bernard ha pedido a los rectores de San Siro un contrato de cuatro años y un sueldo de 3,5 millones de euros por campaña." means that Bernard has asked AC Milan a contract for 4 years and an annual salary of 3,5 millions each year. Divide 3.5 by 53 and you get a weekly salary of 66k. Euros that is.

This is from July 27th and it says "la richiesta del giocatorre per l'ingaggio e piutosto alta: 3.5 milioni di euro a stagione", meaning "the players' demands in order to sign are high: 3.5 millions euros per year":

[Link]

Yes, besides this he's also asking for a 7-9 million payment up frontbevause he's coming free of contract and the agents want 1 million for themselves as I understand. But even doing the math, with 14 millions in salaries over 4 years and 10 millions up front, that's a 24 million expenditure with everything for a player like Bernard. Divided by week it would be 113k pe week.

Either The Guardian knows something better and these publications don't know or they've pulled that 200k number out of their ass.

Why? Would things have been different if we had moved faster? Would Bernard have chosen us over Chelsea if we had moved quicker? Of course not, we could have negotiated our backsides off and if Chelsea come in then our prior would be irrelevant.

If he goes to Chelsea, I bet he ends up on loan to us or a similar placed club next year. He’ll get board as “cover” very quickly.
