I can remember losing every pre-season game resulting in the manager being sacked

1-6 defeat to non-league Crawley, perhaps?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

They are not. Speaking to their fans after the game they are 3rd favourites for relegation!

The stream broadcast said they had promotion hopes and that Clement had brought in quite a few players. Fans eeem to be typically pessimistic. Obviously a disconnect.

I went yesterday. Had a couple of comments to make.

1. The stewards at Reading were great. They saw me with 2 young kids and then ushered me to a great place at the front, right behind the goal.

2. £3 for a one sheet, fold-out program, that contained very little information was rubbish. I know its a friendly, and I expect a slimmed-down program... but this was a rip-off.

3. Riedewald looked like he's spent the summer in Macdonalds. I think I can run faster than he can.

4. Zaha was unplayable. The ball stuck to his feet like glue. I think he lost the ball once during the whole game and often went for the simple ball, rather than the complicated - which was refreshing.

5. Townsend didn't stop running. God knows how many km's he clocked up.

6. The end.

I was also there, agree with everything you have said except 3. He does not wear a slim fit shirt as does not like them, therefore looks "weighty". He is not quick but thought he played well and has a good range of passing, would like to see more of him this year.

Hats off the the programme seller from me. When I went to buy one he asked me "Are you Palace? The only mention you get in this programme is the badge on the front cover...save your money" Good afternoon out.

Our performance was very encouraging. Only thing is, almost everything went through Wilf - which shows how badly we need him to stay!

I was in Paris in 1980 and managed to get a ticket for the France v England 5-Nations match at the Parc des Princes. Inside the ground was a French guy with a clutch of programmes. I asked him in my O-Level French “how much?”. He held one in my direction and said something in French that I thought was him saying that they were free, so I grabbed it, said “merci” and walked off.

Once I’d taken my seat, my brain got into gear and I realised that he’d actually said “Ce que vous voulez, monsieur” (however much you wish, sir). In other words there was no fixed price, but you were expected to ‘contribute’. I felt really guilty, and went back out to the concourse to try to find him again but he’d gone. It’s crazy, but I still feel guilty about it 38 years later!!

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I wouldn't feel too guilty - maybe look at it that you taught the guy a valuable life lesson about pricing which has hopefully helped him to go on and become a success which otherwise would not have happened.
Thinking about it - the guy probably owes you!

My guilt is henceforth assuaged!

If Benteke is serious then Zaha should be starting up front. Sorloth isn't good enough and doesn't look like he will be. Was poor against Oxford and Stevenage.

Nice to see Wickham on the bench tho, hopefully he doesn't get injured again!

Says who?

Am I the only person who really likes Palace in red shorts and socks? Why can't we have that for every home game?
