At Palace you can barely get a drink and the food is terrible. I noticed after matches if you buy anything they often give you stuff free to get rid of it. Trouble is no-one really wants the food.
Is genuinely a shame.

nail on the head.
cant believe the yanks let this s***e go.

I'm quite surprised by this thread.

The food, since the new Holmesdale has been built, has been generally poor.

What did you think was going to happen?? I refuse to eat at the ground for a number of reasons:

1) quality - it's poor.
2) price - it's ridiculously expensive
3) benefit - my money goes to the companies that run the stands - not the club

But what did people think was going to happen?

CPFC 2010 are going to get the best contract (ie the cheapest or the one that provides the most income) for the club, not the best for the fans. People need to wake up.

This is a BUSINESS - it's not a social. This is the main difference - we fans see it as a club but the owners run this as a profit making business.

But as a BBC study showed, we were one of the 10 clubs that make a profit without fans money.

If you think buying food is benefitting the club then you are sadly delusional.

My own belief is far too altruistic to ever work but you get catering schools to come in, cook from scratch and use catering students to teach them mass catering.

They would be more energised to get it right as it's thier career - not like some agency staff who don't care about the job (I see it as I'm an agency worker and I've hired agency workers before) and who clearly don't want to be there.

Imagine getting a portion of proper chips wrapped in newspaper? Or a decent burger made from scratch not tiny little silicone implants.

If the club CARES about the fans, the health of the people it serves then it wouldn't serve up the fare it does. It's cheap, high margin and it's profitable for the business.

I have since 1996 made and brought my own food or ate at home. It isn't hard people!! Organise yourselves.

I see everyone complaining about the food or prices - don't buy it, show the club that in fact - they need to change it.

If people still want to be stupid and pay £4.50+ for a hot dog then you are part of the problem.

I find it amazing that those of you with children can afford it. The match day experience is expensive enough surely?

I have no sympathy for anyone who buys the food as you are supporting this by doing so. It makes no sense to me. Between 1991-95 it was OK and it was reasonable.

I've found if the club wants to get people in to buy food, stay around then they should do what some clubs do and run a social club. But the club could do this by opening the Holmesdale stand early and help people make a day of it.

But they don't want to do that, they don't care about the community at large, just fleecing a captive audience.

i am suprised people are still moaning about this...selhurst park was built as a football stadium, not a food hall.

you couldnt get decent service & food when we had 14k every week, letalone with another 10k added into the mix.

new stadiums have the added space & kiosks build into the design, we dont have that luxery, in my experience the holmesdale is the best of a bad lot and thats not suprising given thats the newest stand.

i have worked in catering for 20 years and in my experience there really isnt much you could do to improve it.

a) you employ staff on a contract of roughly 12 hours per month...what type of staff do you expect to attract on minimum wage for an average of 3 hours a week?

b) with the food being outsourced, the consumer is f***ed from the start, for starters i assume the club take a large up front fee & possibly a % of takings, i bet after costs they make 75p per hotdog / burger / pie

c) theres no need to make much of an effort on food as at £4.50 for a 500ml bottle of f***ing carlsberg your making your GP on mass sales of that.

d) why pour pints yourself, when you can open bottles & the supplier pays for the container.

anybody who buys food at a football stadium needs their head tested, you can eat much better before & after and its not that hard to go 2 hours without food.

on another point, i feel a better quality of lager could be offered, from a personal POV, i would happily pay £6 for a large bottle of peroni than £4.50 for a bottle of f***ing carlsberg.

Not necessarily. If you go to test match cricket grounds the food there is all outsourced to a variety of companies and the food available there is quite good although the grounds probably have more space though.

There is only one way to get the quality of food improved and that is to stop buying it as something would soon be done about it

Best thing to do is simply not buy at the ground, message would soon get through.

I doubt SP and his friends and family would go anywhere near the food the fans are offered.

Better to have nothing rather than the absolute cr@p on offer

I am sure it probably not the worst in the top four tiers, but would think its bottom 20% at best.

I have had better quality food at non league games

Thanks for the advice! I am perfectly organised thank you and eat at home every day. As I said in my post we use it as a day out (male bonding if you like), making up for time I was working and recently my son being at Uni. Why should we not be able to eat decent food at the ground? What our overseas visitors think I hate to imagine. I don't expect people to agree with me but this is my opinion. Bring back the days of the hotdog sellers with their mobile stand, with the smell of fried onions in the air! Could have them in the fanzone

I endorse the above. Our selection of match grub is by far the worst I've experienced at any football ground at ANY level in recent years. It's so frustrating that it gets more expensive but quality never improves. You can't even get a bottle of water that has been chilled properly. Not into buying rancid prepoured pints either ... the answer is to have more properly trained staff operating more pumps to meet demand or decent bottled beer poured at the counter.

Good post. I don't think I've ever bought hot food at SP despite attending matches since 1984.

Just one look at what is on offer is sufficient to make one feel: "Ugh..." and I'm surprised more fans don't think the same.

It is a crying shame really, 'cos the club for the first time in it's history could do something really special for supporters regarding catering / social, but are so inept it is embarrassing.

sorry i should have stated in a situation like palace, its a real shame the club dont want to hassle of running thier own catering (and this doesnt just apply to selhurst park) as you could knock out a decent quality burger or hot dog for £3 and they would sell loads more.

whats more worrying from my POV is that during the tender for this contract this was deemed the best catering solution for selhurst.

people dont want fancy food & drink at football grounds concourses, you just dont want to feel you are being completely & utterly ripped off.

This is what the club announced in August as part of their improvements :

"And on the concourses, our new and improved classic burgers, hot dogs, vegetable or steak pies are bound to go down a storm, and are available at all food kiosks for £4.80."

Well they appear to have created a storm !!!!

Does that mean you never ordered hot food or, as seems to often be the case, supposedly hot food was cold when served

Most people would be happier with McD and KFC where the quality is consistent, whether you like the food is up to you but I think for most of the crowd the choice and quality from McD and KFC is adequate for match day food. Even charge a premium of 10=15% still better quality and value than what the club's tender winner can produce
