Have you seen the last few years' accounts? I haven't, so perhaps you could tell us how much money we're losing per week, or month, or whatever. I'm genuinely interested to know.

Iíve been wondering about this also. The year in question we spent a lot in the August, sold no one and sacked a manager and his back room staff (would have cost a lot). We had a frugal year last year. and have been working on reducing the wage bill.
We donít seem to be in debt (unlike most the prem). The biggest threat to our long term future is relegation (same as every club our size).
Iím not so sure that SP would have based his financial planning on selling a youth player to Man U for £60million.

I wonder if he factored in that he may have to triple/quadruple AWBs wages in Order to keep him?

He has three years left on his contract?

And when has that been worth anything? all it does is allow us to ask for more money.
If he's being Offered 80k at ManU we need to at least get close to that to keep him happy and motivated.

So you think if the club were to tell him one more season then you can leave, he would play poorly and lack motivation?

It's £40 - £50 million for a right back who

1. Isn't the finished article by a long shot.
2. Could get injured the first game of next season.
3. Is a RIGHT BACK.

Shows how crazy the game has gone that after 50 or so games a player with potential can be worth that much.

not neccessarily no, it depends on his attitude, obviously. but it seems to be the pattern that happens nowaday - club is interested in buying player, player gets new improved contract at current club.

Have you seen the last few years' accounts? I haven't, so perhaps you could tell us how much money we're losing per week, or month, or whatever. I'm genuinely interested to know.

Last year we made a loss of £36m on revenues of £150m (total expenses of £186m). This equates to a loss of circa £700k per week.

We had positive cashflows of ~£1m but only because of loan funding of ~£35m. Without the loan funding we would have had negative cashflows of £36m.

We currently have circa £50m of loans on the books. £21m loans from shareholders (ie, Parish and the Americans) and £29m of advances from banks (basically guaranteed by the subsequent premier league money - think of it as £29m of the PL instantly leaving to repay this loan*).

The positive spin (if you can find one) is that we didn't have a loss if you adjust for player registrations. The accounting for players is that you expense their signing fee over the life of the contract (so, for example, when we signed Benteke for £35m you don't have a year one loss of £35m - instead that cost is spread over the 4 years of his contract). Clubs tend to adjust this because it is non-cash (you've already spent the £35m as cash but are still incurring the 'cost').

Either way the latest set of accounts make (generally) ugly reading and support the theory that we need to sell in the short term and better manage the wage bill in the medium term by signing fewer Jordon Mutch's.

* That said we have a similar agreement to obtain further guarantees of £40m against the following year's PL money so you can kind of consider this as a rolling loan.

And unfortunately it means he canít be reasoned with. As others have pointed out we have an unsustainable wage bill (even with PL income) and need to sell to keep afloat and/or reduce the wage structure.

Putting words in my mouth? Oh dear.

This is about who we want to be as a football club.

Palace is a small club who struggle to attract top players. If every time we develop a great talent we sell them, then who are we?

We will always be nothing.

They both profited.

A daft comparison.

Both those clubs can attract quality replacements.
Both those players had a desire to play for a specific club.

Well if it is so why so much interest in buying him?

If you're right we glad stick with him!
