I've never bought into this idea that people suddenly up and leave to save a few % on tax, the tax levels are the same as europe so they could go to Singapore Hong Kong or somewhere but then cost of living and other factors are much higher. If people had better opportunites to work elsewhere they would do that anyway regardless and employers can easily supplement the difference if they want to keep someone

Tbh Iím also sceptical about this but itís just a feeling vs evidence it does happen. The reason for my scepticism is that people come here for a way of life and people from here appreciate a way of life you cannot get anywhere else. It may be really sh1t in some ways and going to the dogs, but people have things the way they like, in places they like and side by side to people they like (well kind of).

But then thereís cases of large companies with lots of foreign workers who donít have that same affinity with wherever in the U.K. they live, although weíre really talking about the south east. Think large 30 storey head offices like HSBC in Canary Wharf. I canít remember the final outcome but I can see non British workers accepting it more, or even wanting to relocate abroad.

There were about ten times the number of French people working in London as British citizens working in Paris. But that has little to do with tax and everything to do with the lack of jobs in France.

Ah the restrictions on company expansion so it doesnít impact on working environments. Results included no company workplaces expanding beyond 50 staff.

The lack of jobs maybe to do with the difficulty of sacking or making staff redundant. I think Macron is trying to change that as he understands it is a huge barrier for new businesses and foreign investment.

This week there was a report that said the UK is the best country in the world to do business.

I thought it was the employment laws which gives employees much greater protection from getting laid off. But my information is old.

No it isn't it doesn't have a sales tax, but that's about it. Texas I believe has no personal income tax.

Food Banks along with homelessness on the rise despite there being more money circulating the globe than ever?

The problem then surely has to be the 'value of the money'?

from the moment someone put "I promise to pay the bearer" on a note the whole system became notional, philosophical, and confidence driven.
