Without wishing to sound too downbeat this just feels like another short term striker who won’t score goals to go with the several others we have had. Defoe would be a far better choice but Dougie and Parish obviously don’t think so. At least this time we are acting quickly.

Be interesting to see how Roy fits Solanke into the team especially with Benteke on the verge of coming back. Will he play both together or just one of them? If he does along with Zaha and Townsend that will mean only two from Meyer McArthur Luka and Kouyate will start

If we bring in a striker who fails to deliver then of course there will be a chorus of execration aimed at Messrs Parish and Freedman who will both attract bile like a rotten peach attracts wasps. They will be tarred and feathered and ripped apart by the hyenas on HOL and outside this cherished site.

Unless Wickham and / or Benteke start firing, not something that can be relied on but by no means impossible.

Just watched an 8 minute you tube of Solanke’s goal and skills etc. This guy looks exactly what we need up front. Got some lovely footwork and strikes the ball well. Everything I’ve read suggests he fights for the ball and gets stuck in. Good luck to him, playing in front of Wilf and Andros,I see good things COYP!!!

Jordan Ayew fights for the ball too ))

As a previous poster has said, it seems like a short term fix but at this time it's needed. I hope we have an option to buy him if he performs well and gets some goals. Last thing we want is another RLC situation where he's sorely missed the next season.

Must admit It does feel this way. Totally unproven.. is that really what we need with our collection of strikers. Could turn out to be master stroke but it’s risky. Especially if he is all we bring in striker wise

I understand your sentiments.
At the end of the day, with our financial constraints we are not in the market for proven goalscorers at this level. This is the reality of our situation.

Even if the player doesn't score an abundance of goals, having an effective focal point of the attack might allow others to flourish by holding the ball up, winning headers etc etc.

Even if they don't fire, they both provide options so we can vary play, be less predictable and get Wilffie back to his best position.

Let’s face it, no striker has flourished at Palace since Sir Glen Murray in our promotion season, so I guess expectations are low, but if Matteo has seen enough on YouTube to get excited about that’s enough for me!

We are in a no win situation with some on this board. If we go with Defoe, he’ll be too slow and too old, if we go with Solanke he is too young, no experience, if we stick with Benteke and Wickham, they are not firing, if we go with Ayew and Sorloth they are just not good enough.

Who based on all of the above do we want them? Danny Ings the sicknote, Charlie Austin the cart horse, Batshuai who couldn’t score in this league, Tammy Abraham ditto, Assombalongawonga, name too long. You get my drift, we can’t afford Kane, Salah, Aguero or Morata (some would breathe a sigh of relief), so who should we sign?

I personally think Solanke is s good option and I would hope that him arriving will liven up both Wickham and Benteke. There is no easy fix at centre forward in this league and certainly no cheap one.

Good post. I just hope we give Solanki a chance and not start to sl** him off when he doesn't score a hattrick on debut

That is incorrect. He scored 9 and assisted 2 in the Premier League and the Champions League for Chelsea in just 750 minutes of gametime. That's the highest level for me. With a lot more goals in cup competions.
