This time last

That is incorrect. He scored 9 and assisted 2 in the Premier League and the Champions League for Chelsea in just 750 minutes of gametime. That's the highest level for me. With a lot more goals in cup competions.

This time last year we got Sorloth which sadly turned out to be a damp squib. As Matteo has said, Solanke has scored a few in the PL, and is not an unknown quantity. Let’s get behind him and back him to make a difference. He could be great in a 442 with Wilf, or 433.Cautionary note, he is I believe currently injured, and not match fit. Could be mid April before we see him at his best.

I'm just glad we're getting someone in straight away rather than leaving it until the end of the window.

We'd all like a longer term solution, but not likely to happen with Benteke, Wickham, Sorloth, and Ayew hoovering up a quarter of a million pounds every week.

Yes he passed his medical yesterday afternoon deal all agreed and will be confirmed/announced tomorrow when window officially opens.

There will be at least 2 more incomings and a few outgoings.

What Dazza, is that two more that are already agreed or just that we want two more? I can think of a few outgoing as well!

I just don’t get it , I really hope I’m wrong but just look at the facts he doesn’t get on the bench at Liverpool he’s score 1 goal in 2 seasons in a team that’s flying he must be so low in confidence, he should be going to a mid table championship side where he can excell not palace . we’ll spent the 2-3 months chanting his name as he beds himself in and his confidence grows then he’ll score a couple do good things and we’ll send him back . All it’s going to do is save Liverpool £25,000 a week , I’d rather see a Defo or a hungry free scoreing championship player come . As I said earlier I hope I’m wrong

You are not the first to express reservations about Solanke.
I have heard similar sentiments outside of HOL.

If he starts to score a few he will be lauded, if he turns out to be a flop, gladitorial hostility will be aimed at Parish,Freedman etc etc.Ordure will be heaped on them in vast quantities.

Thanks, interesting, I kind of expected Moses as he is a great utility player to have, but another striker probably signals Ayew gone and Sorloth loan.

To be fair Willo, if we were to sign Defoe and he doesn’t score a goal then there would be similar chastisement for taking on an aged striker. It would appear that we want a striker who can score 10 goals in half a season, who isn’t being schooled for another team, who isn’t a loan but will only cost us about £10m. Hmmm I think us and half of the teams in the PL are looking for the same thing.

its a risk free gamble and nothing more.

our track record of loaning strikers is nothing short of awful, unless we are going back to forsell / stewart days.

i hope he turns into a goalscoring monster, but i suppose hes of a better pedigree than sorloth to come off the bench.

I understand the points you have raised.

I mentioned Solanke as he is the subject of the thread and it appears we will be signing him, but of course ANY striker whom we sign who doesn't deliver will result in opprobrium being hurled at Messrs Parish and Freedman.

At the end of the day in our position we are not in the market for proven PL goalcorers and have to cut our cloth accordingly.
