Zaha Vs Vince Hilaire

For those who can remember Vince Hilaire of the iconic Palace team from the 80's, do we think that Zaha will leave the same legacy left behind by Vince?.... I dont think so.

Same legacy? This is some classic "the past is always better than the present" bulls***. Wilf has been a huge part in our promotion, humiliated our hated rivals in their own ground in front of their plastic customers, left for a record fee then came back, dragged us through seasons where the rest of our team didn't turn up, gone from strength to strength to the point he could justifiably ask to move to a CL level team and start there, loves the club and is a team leader who apparently impresses on new signings the meaning of playing for us and the importance of the Brighton games, is a role model for local youth having grown up so close to SP and been where they are in life. I don't even think that's the end of Wilfried's legacy Put some respect on Sir Wilfried Zaha's name

I agree with you regarding Sir Wilfred Zaha, I do not doubt that he is up there with some of the greatest players we have had at the club. But, perhaps due to my old man banging on about Palace being the 'Team of the 80's' I may have been brainwashed into believing him. Or it could be because Wilf is playing in a team that hasn't quite managed to achieve the same level as success as that of Vince Hilaire and Co.

Vince was part of a very special team for two or three years till it all went tits up, which always swings the comparison his way, but for consistency now over a number of years in a below average top flight team, it would swing Wilf’s way and he’s definitely left his mark, and would Vince, much as I loved him have been able to single handedly be the difference for us in so many games in an ordinary team, I’m not so sure. Vince hilaire was the reason I started supporting us he's an iconic image in the sash but from footballing terms and influence on the pitch wilf is second to no player past or present in my opinion the sheer joy of watching him terrorise some of the best teams in the world makes the long trip to selhurst worth it for me

Do wonder if Vince would make today's team if around now. Used to love watching him, frustrating at times and would often take on one player too many but such such skill and balance. its odd to speak of boyhood heros when I'm knocking on fifty but Vince was and always will be one of mine.

I loved Vince he played at at time he could have opened a a fruit and veg stall with all the bananas and the other nonsense. Like a lot of the black players at the time he conducted himself with a lot more grace and dignity that the morons making the monkey chants. More importantly than that he was a great player for Palace. However having seen both I would have to give the edge to Zaha because I think he is more important to the team than Vince was. That is not a criticism of Vince what I mean is that Palace had other players they could rely on should Vince have an off day. Edited by Badger11 (01 Dec 2018 9.14am)

Vince was a terrific flair player, in what was actually a pretty good team - Wilf is the most exciting player I've seen in a Palace shirt. There may have been better technical players - but for pure excitement, when he's on song it's Wilf for me.
