I will say this - if you are a visiting African or Eastern European lecturer or professor, you will usually get wages better than your normal wages from your home institution. You would not get the same wages as a permanent member of staff would. And I would say - why should you?

I think I get what your saying but for debate what about agency nurses, don't they get paid more?

In general they cost more and may get more per hour in some cases. They do not get the benefits of permanent NHS staff though. Here we import Philipino nurses and they get less.

Are you completely stupid?

It makes perfect sense that a business would try to pay migrants less money. They will always try to reduce costs and employing slightly desperate migrant applicants for rubbish money is one way. A larger potential workforce also means lower wages generally.

Why else do you think that businesses welcome immigration?

Edit. I also notice that you joined this site on 15 November 2018 and went almost straight to the politics section.

Hmmmm!

Maybe immigrants can only be paid lower if they are white?

This stuff is so confusing!

even The Economist has been hijacked by this strange form of warped marxism or 'democratic socialism' - LOL. Sad that this strange skew to far left is actually going to be to their detriment because it will push people away from centre/centre-left towards the right.

A truly excellent, if depressing, video highlighting a great written piece.....yep, it's probably already lost.

An interesting point of view about identity politics since it works both for and against any group.
What is clear is that Europeans are destroying their own future by buying into the indoctrination of the elite.
As I have said before. Our overlords want nationless, passive, workers with no self worth other than the contribution they make for their employer. They want people to exist for the now with no real understanding of history beyond the fabricated one they choose.

It is truly Orwellian.

I've always viewed universities as very left wing and liberal, always going out their way to push the voice of liberal views.

Yes there probably are more left leaning teaching staff at universities. But there are also a few "nation state" right wingers like Frank Furedi who is emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Kent.

Perhaps more importantly the politics of the graduates themselves is split about 50:50 Labour and the Conservatives.

The London School of Economics which was a hot bed of marxism in the 60s has had a distinctly right wing tendency for many years.

'Yes there probably are more left leaning teaching staff at universities'.

Are you going for 'understatement of the year' with that one?
